Job Description
OVERVIEW:
The Assistant Site Supervisor generally will function as a Nutrition Assistant II, under the direct
supervision of the Site Supervisor / Manager or Area Manager and WIC Director. Essential functions of WNA
II are to enroll, verify eligibility, and certify WIC participants. The Assistant Site Supervisor will provide
nutrition counseling, group education, benefit issuance and appointment scheduling. The Assistant Site
Supervisor assists the Site Supervisor / Manager with all of the tasks related to WIC Card security. In the
temporary absence of the Site Supervisor / Manager will assume supervisory responsibilities for WNA II and
WNA I staff, assisting them in verifying and certifying participant’s eligibility for the WIC Program. Incumbent
will be required to travel to other sites. This is a non-exempt Union position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assistant Site Supervisor Duties:
- Create and update monthly clinic schedules for the satellite site
- Visit the satellite site at least one day per month to do monthly reports
- Act as CQI coordinator for sites include making monthly CQI assignments, printing reports each month and distributing
- list of files to use for CQIs to staff, helping staff develop a corrective action plan for any errors, collecting completed
- CQIs and giving them to the Nutrition Education Coordinator
- Order brochures from CDPH/WIC, stock shipments when they arrive and maintain brochure cabinets for daily use for
- both main and satellite sites
- Help train new staff
- May pick up and deliver supplies from administration office to site
- Travel to other sites as needed to provide assistance; do monthly reports, attend meetings as required
- Distribute and collect ROMA surveys
- Any other duties assigned by the Site Supervisor / Manager
In the absence of the Site Supervisor / Manager:
- Assist and/or supervise Nutrition Assistants I and II
- Create and update monthly clinic schedules for the main site
- Distribute and provide security for WIC Cards
- Review participant files to ensure that records are accurate and complete
- Lead huddles
- Order office and janitorial supplies for both main and satellite sites
- Handle any other questions or issues that arise
Continue current WNA responsibilities:
- Conduct nutrition assessment, develop an individual education plan, prescribe the most appropriate food instrument for the
- WIC participant and provide individual nutrition education
- Conduct group nutrition education sessions
- Answer phones, file, schedule, and revise appointments
- Provide technical and emotional support to breastfeeding mothers
- Provide translation assistance for non-English speaking participants if job application indicated bilingual skills
- Coordinate and conduct annual training of local WIC agency staff on Code of Conduct
- All other normal WNA responsibilities
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Must have certification of achievement, two years’ experience as a California WIC Nutrition Assistant (WNA) and
- evaluations meeting job requirements.
- Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Computer literate with typing speed of 40 wpm. Ability to
- accurately compile and maintain records and reports.
- Extensive knowledge of breastfeeding benefits, physiology, and support.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively with staff and clients; ability to communicate effectively, both orally
- and in writing.
- Bilingual English / Spanish preferred.
- Maintain confidentiality.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
- High School graduate or equivalent. WIC Nutrition Assistant (WNA) Certification. College-level nutrition class.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid California driver’s license, proof of minimum California vehicle insurance.
- Work occasionally on Saturdays and evenings.
