About This Position
Responsible for overseeing decontamination, correct assembly, and sterile processing of all operating room instrumentation. Ensures adherence to regulatory standards for universal precautions, sterilization methodologies, and biological monitoring. Maintains cleanliness of the department and manages materials to support safe and efficient operations. Applies knowledge of regulatory requirements to uphold quality and safety standards. Coordinates workflow to optimize sterile processing outcomes.
Essential Functions:
• Prepares, plans, and provides instrumentation to preoperative services.
• Monitors and suggests departmental competencies for central sterile technicians in instrument decontamination, preparation, and sterilization.
• Uses correct personal protective equipment and complies with university, hospital, and unit policies and regulations.
• Develops and maintains positive and productive working relationships with all co-workers.
• Contributes to department teamwork by offering and requesting assistance as needed.
• Serves as a resource by providing and modeling reliable, accurate information and assistance to co-workers through mentoring and teaching.
• Attends departmental in-services on new instrumentation or sterilization and preparation practices.
• Provides mentorship and guidance to team members, including coaching, coordinating work schedules, and supporting professional development.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement:
High school diploma or equivalent and vocational/technical training in a designated technical area
Experience Requirement:
7+ years of experience in a healthcare, clinical setting, or a relevant area
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
All experience must be paid and in the same related field.
Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.
Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.

Physical Demands:
This position requires regular standing or walking with objects weighing up to 10 pounds; intermittent standing or walking with objects up to 25 pounds; intermittent lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting, pushing, and/or pulling of objects over 50 pounds; occasional sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time; and performing tasks with repetitive motions.
