Job Description
✨ Who We Are
❌ This Role Is Not for You If…
Meroka is building the future of independent medicine in the United States. We provide operations, finance, tech, and strategic support to physician-owned practices-helping them grow sustainably and with soul. This is in addition to support for physicians transitioning ownership to the employees of the business.
We believe in clear communication, practical systems, thoughtful design, and long-term thinking. Our tone is warm, grounded, and confident-but never corporate or clinical.
❌ This Role Is Not for You If…
- You avoid ownership of large, complex systems and prefer narrow, isolated tasks
- You are uncomfortable building in a regulated space like healthcare where security and compliance are non-negotiable
- You shy away from mentoring or supporting less experienced engineers
- You wait for direction rather than proactively identifying technical improvements
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure backend services powering our healthcare platform
- Own the full lifecycle of features: design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and improvement
- Drive continuous integration and deployment across the platform
- Contribute to innovation and ongoing performance optimization
- Ensure code quality with peer reviews, testing, and strong development practices
- Collaborate with internal and external partners on integrations (EHR, billing, accounting systems)
- Implement and uphold security and compliance standards (HIPAA, SOC 2, OWASP best practices)
- Document workflows, share knowledge, and strengthen engineering practices across the team
- Is fluent in modern backend programming languages and frameworks (Python, TypeScript, etc.)
- Has experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS preferred) to build scalable SaaS solutions
- Brings strong database skills in SQL (e.g., Postgres) and NoSQL systems
- Brings deep knowledge of secure coding practices (OWASP)
- Is confident building and integrating APIs for interoperability (FHIR, HL7 a plus)
- Spots and solves complex technical problems with scalability and performance in mind
- Understands secure coding practices and compliance in healthcare or other regulated industries
- Communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Mentors junior engineers and contributes to a strong engineering culture
- Thrives in a fast-moving environment with high ownership
- Competitive compensation and health benefits
- Unlimited vacation and flexible working arrangements
- The opportunity to shape the backend architecture of a platform restoring humanity in healthcare
- Ownership of critical technical systems that support independent medical practices
- A thoughtful, ambitious team that values pragmatism, clarity, and long-term thinking
- This role will require occasional travel to the USA and Canada for on-site campaigns, team collaboration, and brand activations. All travel will be coordinated and supported by the Meroka team.
- Send us your CV and GitHub or code samples. Bonus points if you include a short Loom video introducing yourself and walking us through a system, API, or architecture you’ve built and are proud of.
