Department: Golf OperationsReports To: Golf Professionals, Pro Shop Manager, or Director of GolfClassification: Exempt (recommend review – this role is typically non-exempt)Position SummaryThe Player’s Assistant plays a key role in enhancing the on-course guest experience across all five Shanty Creek golf courses: The Legend, Cedar River, Schuss Mountain, Summit, and Hawk’s Eye. This position focuses on guest service, safety, and pace-of-play support by serving as a friendly and approachable ambassador on the course.
Using Shanty Creek’s Four Degrees of Engagement framework, the Player’s Assistant helps maintain a positive, respectful, and efficient playing environment for all guests.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPromote a welcoming, helpful, and respectful environment for all guests
Greet players and provide assistance throughout their round
Monitor and support pace of play using the Four Degrees of Engagement:
Observe and Greet
Inform and Encourage
Coach and Redirect
Involve Management (as needed)
Address pace-of-play and etiquette concerns with professionalism and care
Conduct regular course patrols to ensure guest safety and course conditions
Identify and report hazards, incidents, or unusual activity
Support golf operations during peak times, tournaments, and events
Encourage efficient play while maintaining an enjoyable guest experience
Must be at least 18 years of age
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a golf cart safely
Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Previous experience in golf operations or customer service
Basic knowledge of golf rules, etiquette, and terminology
Experience in a resort or recreational environment
Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
Effective communication and conflict resolution abilities
Observational awareness and proactive mindset
Ability to remain calm and professional in all situations
Team-oriented with a positive and service-focused attitude
Primarily outdoor work in varying weather conditions
Requires extended periods of driving and walking the golf course
Frequent interaction with guests in a recreational setting
Flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
