Job Title: HR Business Partner (People Partner)

Location: 4 Days Onsite in NY or Boca, Hybrid
Department: Human Resources
Reports To: Director of HR


The Role:

The People Partner is a key member of the HR team responsible for delivering a seamless and engaging team member experience across the full lifecycle. This role leads employee relations support, maintains HRIS data integrity, and executes critical HR processes including onboarding, leave management, workers' compensation, and compliance reporting. This team member serves as a strategic advisor to managers and ensures operational excellence as Petfolk scales its people programs.

What You'll Do:

  • Employee Relations & Performance Management: Serve as a coach and advisor to managers; document and support resolution of employee relations issues with discretion and care
  • Leadership Development: Partner with managers and leadership teams to identify development opportunities, support coaching initiatives, and build people leadership capabilities across the organization.
  • Culture & Engagement: Champion and contribute to a positive corporate culture by facilitating new hire orientation, supporting employee engagement initiatives, promoting company values, and fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment. Partner with leaders to support organizational growth by driving change management initiatives and helping teams successfully navigate transformation in a rapidly scaling environment.
  • Performance Reviews: Coordinate performance review timelines, ensure timely form completion, feedback collection, and manager support throughout the cycle
  • Leave Management: Oversee our third-party leave management partner to process and track FMLA, personal leave, and other LOA requests; serve as a resource to guide team members through the leave process and liaise with payroll and benefits for coordination.
  • HR Administration & HRIS Management: support HRIS system access and setup, and manage offboarding processes to ensure a smooth and consistent team member experience. Own team member data integrity in Rippling, including job changes, promotions, terminations, and audits; continuously identify opportunities to improve workflows, reporting, and automation within the platform.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Manage unemployment claims and respond to state agencies; handle workers' compensation injury reports, claims, and documentation; monitor workplace safety and maintain accurate OSHA recordkeeping and reporting; generate and submit federal, state, and internal compliance reports and assist with audits and policy reviews.
  • SOP Maintenance: Document and maintain up-to-date HR workflows for employee lifecycle events, ensuring clarity and compliance.

Who You Are:

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Human Resources, including employee relations and HRIS administration, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Previous experience in a high-growth or multi-location environment preferred
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth organization, ideally in veterinary medicine or related industry.
  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to handle sensitive conversations with discretion
  • Strong understanding of HRIS systems (ideally Rippling or similar). Familiarity with employment laws, HR compliance, and employee relations best practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence across all levels of the organization with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data handling and documentation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proactive problem-solver with ability to navigate ambiguity and scale processes
  • Comfort with technology and innovation; ability to embrace and apply new tools, including AI-powered platforms, to improve HR outcomes and scalability

Compensation & Benefits:

  • This position requires minimal travel (up to 10%) to our other HQ locations or pet care centers for in-person meetings
