Administrative Assistant (Pathology) at Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall – Newburgh, New York

Pay rate: $20 - $22 per hour.

Responsible for supporting the Laboratory department with clerical and ancillary duties. Responsible for preparing laboratory specimens for designated locations prior to testing. This position is an unlicensed member of the laboratory staff who works under the direction of the Medical Director and Supervisor and follows standard Laboratory procedures and policies. Duties include, but are not limited to, performing inventory, ordering supplies, receiving, unpacking packages, and processing of pathology specimens. Required to ensure proper patient identification of and the correct management of the patient samples and documents. Responsible for maintaining a clean and well-organized work area in the various laboratory areas. Filing of specimen blocks, distribution of slides, and assisting pathologists, house staff, management, and technicians in multiple clerical tasks. Maintenance of records, patient interactions by phone, result retrieval, and coordination of samples/documents with laboratory Pathology staff.

Education/Training: High School diploma or equivalent with science courses (biology and/or chemistry). Associate’s degree preferred.

Experience: At least one year of office experience required. Good communication skills and computer skills required. Medical Terminology and previous Pathology experience preferred.
