Job Description
The primary function of this position is to price for bidding, all types of heavy/highway construction projects for public and private sector bids. This person will be responsible for quantity takeoff, pricing, completing bid forms, writing proposals, generating project budgets and other duties as assigned by the Construction Manager. Will also be responsible for and will be held accountable for the timely completion of projects, ensuring they are completed in strict accordance with plans and specifications.
Salary Range: $90,000-$140,000 per year (May vary based on experience and qualifications)
Essential Functions:
- Obtain bid packages from various public and private sources.
- Complete quantity takeoff necessary to check and price work.
- Accurately, completely, and timely calculate costs to perform all phases of construction.
- Travel to potential construction sites as necessary to become familiar with project requirements.
- Maintain professional, effective, and efficient communication with customers, engineers, contractors, and highway superintendents. • Ensure bid documents are delivered on time and complete in form.
- Solicit, compile, and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing as required.
- Coordination of functions associated with estimating including specification review, cost review, scheduling, risk assessment, and other related duties. • Generate and manage estimates required for sales, pre-construction and bidding efforts.
- Provide estimates, budget control and studies for projects and potential projects during business development, pre-construction and construction phases of a project. • Responsible for market strategy development.
- Work as a key member of the Contracts team to review, approve and set up processes.
- Prioritizes and plans work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources.
- Maintain estimating system (B2W) data base costing and reference information.
- Other duties as assigned
- A Bachelor's degree preferred but not required and 5+ years of professional experience in estimating with a heavy/highway construction background.
- Must have a firm understanding of NYDOT specifications, the ability to read and understand plans, perform field measurements and quantify takeoffs.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and packaged estimating software desired.
- Must possess strong written and oral communication skills. Will be required to travel, have a valid driver's license and pass a physical and drug screen
Work Conditions
Office setting with controlled temperature and minimal noise. Incumbent must be able to sit for extended periods of time and tolerate working at a computer for the majority of their work duties. When visiting job site candidate must be able to tolerate moderate to loud noise level (PPE will be provided, including hearing protection as required), standing, and walking.
