About This Position

Candidates who meet the qualification guidelines will be placed on the eligibility list and invited to participate in the selection process outlined below.
Selection Process will include:
- 11/13/2025 - Physical Abilities Test (PAT)*
- *Requirements to waive PAT: Possession of CPAT certificate within last 6 months, or enrollment in a Firefighter I academy currently or within the last 6 months.
- 11/18/2025 and/or 11/19/2025 - Paramedic Skills Interview and Selection Interview

The City of El Cajon's Fire Department is a member of Heartland Fire & Rescue (HFR). HFR was formed via a Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) to administer fire and rescue services for the Cities of El Cajon, La Mesa, and Lemon Grove at the Battalion Chief level and above. Education: Educational achievement equivalent to graduation from high school.
Experience: One year of full time experience as a regular Paramedic Firefighter (non-probationary). Active, seasonal time will count towards experience. Reserve time is not qualifying.
Special Requirements: Possession of or ability to obtain, prior to employment, a valid Class C California driver's license with a safe driving record. Must obtain a minimum of a Class C California driver's license with a Firefighter Endorsement prior to completion of two years. Possession of State of California Paramedic License with San Diego County accreditation and basic CPR certificate (Must be maintained as a condition of employment).
