GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Carries out the day-to-day operations of juvenile offender programs involving the community.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work under the supervision of the Alternative Programs Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor who assigns work and reviews for conformance to established standards and statutes.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this class. May oversee and direct the duties of a juvenile relief staff, work study, practicum and voluntary positions.

- Trains and instructs youth in proper methods of cooking, baking, meat cutting, vegetable preparation and use of equipment.
- Participates in the preparation and cooking of vegetables, meats, and baking pastries.
- Conducts and instructs youth to assist in inventory of stock, equipment, and tools on a periodic basis; receives and stores stock, maintains supplies in kitchen; ensures the proper storage of food.
- Prepares, cooks, and serves food for meals consistent with planned menus; maintains appropriate portions when applying recipes.
- Assists in the planning of menus that provide nutritious and attractive food.
- Supervises and participates in the preparation of special diets and daily menus.
- Works with staff to maintain communication with vendors/suppliers; estimates need from vendors/suppliers for cleaning supplies and perishables.
- Coordinates communications and relationships with customers and trains youth in effective customer service.
- Maintains and/or monitors sanitary standards, checks cleanliness of area.
- Shops, pick up supplies, maintain inventory, stock shelves.
- Conducts and instructs youth to assist in inventory of stock, equipment, receives and stores stock, maintains supplies in kitchen, ensures the proper storage of food.
- Operate and clean specialized food and beverage equipment and utensils.
- Maintains and /or monitors sanitary standards, checks cleanliness of area.
- Maintain Food Handlers, CPR/First aid cards, and blood borne training.
- Complies with department and county policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Assure unit policies and procedures are followed by staff juveniles.
- Function as field supervisor for practicum students and volunteers in absence of Worker-3 position.
- Attends staff meetings as directed, conferences and training.
- Inspects all checks, money, credit, debit cards, etc. To confirm the customer identity and payment. Balances daily transactions and verifies cash totals, Issues receipts. Secures daily receipts.
- Develop and maintain inventory, merchandize, and prepare marketing and advertising displays.
- Operate a variety of business machines including but not limited to a calculator, weight scale, cash register, credit/debit card terminal.
- Assist customers with purchases.
- Complete other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Two years of college coursework in social sciences, business management, forestry, horticulture, or closely related field; AND
- Two years of experience dealing with juveniles, preferably with some experience in a juvenile offender program; OR
- Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- The finalist for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check, including finger printing; however, conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this position.
- Must possess a current driver's license in the applicant's state of residence and an acceptable driving history. Marion County will obtain a copy of the driving record for all qualified applicants from Driver and Motor Vehicle Services and review the driving record according to the Marion County policy and procedure for Driving on County Business. - This is a Safety Sensitive/Special Needs position. Must pass a post offer drug screen, including testing for marijuana. The Marion County Drug and Alcohol Use and Testing Policy #518 is located at: https://www.co.marion.or.us/BOC/Pages/policies.aspx
- Must possess, or obtain within 60 days of hire, a Basic First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Must possess, or obtain within 30 days of hire, a Food Handler's Card.
- This assignment is represented by a union.
- This is a part-time position, which is eligible for overtime.
- Typical Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, depending upon the needs of the department and program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of juvenile offender behavior; practical human relations; housekeeping procedures and minor equipment maintenance; and landscaping, and/or forest related practices. Working knowledge of evidence-based practices with juveniles.
Skills and abilities to train juveniles in outdoor work settings and demonstrate the use of effective communication skill in a juvenile setting; understand and follow oral and written instructions; maintain records; work independently; work effectively with other agencies, employees and the public; basic computer skill ability; operate a motor vehicle; and work on a flexible schedule.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Operates a motor vehicle; sees using depth perception; able to perform take downs, restraining of clients; stands; sits; moves about the work area; bends forward; stoops; climbs stairs; crawls; reaches overhead; lifts up to 35 lbs.; pushes/pulls and moves carts weighing up to 75 lbs.; carries up to 25 lbs. up to 50 feet; perform twisting with 25 lb. objects; operates a keyboard; uses rapid mental/eye/hand coordination; speaks clearly and audibly; reads a 12 pt. font; distinguishes colors; hears a normal level of speech; hears radio communications, sirens and loud speakers; works in all weather conditions including heat, cold, humidity, dust, smoke; works with noise and vibration; wet and uneven areas; climbs ladders; exposure to chemicals; high risk of exposure to OSHA Blood/Body Fluid (BBF) exposure..
