Villanova University’s first-year seminar program, the Augustine and Culture Seminar Program (ACSP), seeks one full-time continuing non-tenure track (CNT) faculty member to teach its two-semester humanities seminar. With a reading list grounded in the Augustinian, Catholic, and liberal arts traditions, the Augustine and Culture Seminar (ACS) is reading-and-writing-intensive and also facilitates student engagement in the intellectual, cultural, and artistic life of the University and the greater Philadelphia area. Students from all four colleges (Liberal Arts & Sciences, Nursing, Engineering, and Business) take the two courses (1000 Ancients and 1001 Moderns) in this collegial program taught by 25+ full-time faculty from a wide range of disciplines. A signature feature of the first-year experience at Villanova is the Communitas: First-Year Learning Community program that is a coordinated effort between ACSP and the Division of Student Life.

All complete applications from qualified candidates will be considered. However, we especially encourage applications from qualified candidates with an expertise in one of the traditions of South and/or East Asia (for example, Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism, Taoism, or any related tradition), or with an expertise in any area of Catholic Social Thought.

There is a promotion ladder for CNT faculty at Villanova. Villanova offers a competitive benefits package to all full-time faculty. After a one-year probationary period, ACSP faculty are eligible to teach for other departments and programs.

Villanova is a Catholic university sponsored by the Augustinian Order. The University is an equal opportunity employer and seeks candidates who understand, respect, and can contribute to the University’s mission and values.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The positions are renewable 9-month academic appointments at the rank of assistant teaching professor with a 4/4 teaching load (classes capped at 16). Successful candidates will provide evidence of teaching effectiveness and demonstrate a willingness to explore and teach the Augustinian and Catholic intellectual traditions as well as texts in and outside of one’s discipline and areas of expertise. The position is primarily and essentially a teaching position, and ACSP cultivates a cooperative community of teacher-scholars dedicated to meeting the perennial and the changing needs of our students through an ongoing program of faculty development activities. CNT faculty in ACSP are expected to engage in significant service to the program, college, and university. CNT faculty also are expected to be professionally active, and there are funds available at the program, college and university levels for conference travel, curricular development, and research.
