Responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating Speech Therapy services for patients (adults and pediatrics) in concert with the total care plan. The Speech Pathologist directs other team members, patients, families in procedures designed to improve patient’s communicative, cognition, and swallow abilities.

Compensation: $44.25-$69.77

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Obtain a medical history

  • Evaluate the patient’s speech, language, cognition, and swallowing abilities using standardized procedures when appropriate; evaluate need of hearing assessment and make appropriate recommendations.

  • Assess the home environment to determine and make adaptations as needed for the ease and safety of care in order to provide maximal independence.

  • Evaluate the patient’s condition, family and home situation to determine what assistance will be available from family members in caring for the patient and determine if additional services/resources are needed.

  • Utilize the assessment data to develop a care plan.

  • Consult with appropriate disciplines and request their involvement in care.

  • Consult with the physician and obtain consent to proceed with treatment plan.

  • Chart therapy services rendered using the SOAP format

  • Communicate patient care and progress in case conferences

  • Evaluate and update the therapy plan [List essential functions]

  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION: Master’s degree in Speech Pathology or CFY training. Training and experience in the administration and interpretation of results of a recognized, standardized procedure for the differential diagnosis of aphasia; dysarthria, dysphagia, apraxia, and other problems properly referred to the Speech Pathologist; and a working knowledge of appropriate treatment procedures for these disorders.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Completion of all clinical internships.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: One year of experience diagnosing and treating neurogenic problems is preferred.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS: Membership in the American Speech and Hearing Association; qualifications for the Certificate of Clinical Competence.

SKILLS:


  • A basic knowledge of audiology, including experience in audiometric procedure sufficient to administer and interpret a hearing examination

  • Knowledge of hearing-aid fitting, auditory training and lip reading is desirable

  • Ability to apply skills and therapy techniques

  • Demonstrates the maturity and capability of representing the Rehabilitation Services Department

  • Able to positively work with other health care providers and the public

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

Eligibility Requirements - Employees regularly scheduled at least 20 hours per week.

Employee Dependents - Your legal spouse or domestic partner, Dependent children until age 26.
