Summary and Purpose of the Position: Reporting to the Director of Learning Support Systems, Professional Tutors are staff who work with students to help them to develop effective learning strategies and to become self-regulated learners. These tutors help students with discipline-specific content.
Function of Position:
- Foster the development of independent, intentional learners
- Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty
- Collaborate with faculty on providing workshops and in setting tutoring expectations
- Adhere to tutoring center protocol and tutoring expectations as outlined in the Tutor Handbook
- Promote critical thinking and problem solving
- Help to identify and fill learning gaps with discipline specific content
- Help students understand our learning management system (Brightspace)
- Prepare students for exams and quizzes
Secondary Functions:
- Visit classrooms, as needed, to introduce students to tutoring.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Science
- Experience working with diverse college populations
- Technology savvy
Preferred Qualifications:
- Some tutoring experience
Additional Information:
Pay rate is determined by candidate's degree:
Bachelor's Degree - $17/hr
Master's Degree - $19/hr
PhD - $21.00
