Our Senior Ignition Integrator is a member of our Enterprise Services team. Techneaux's Enterprise Services team provides software integration and staff augmentation services centered around SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems primarily for the Energy / Oil & Gas industry. We are vendor-agnostic and routinely help clients with many different brands of SCADA systems, as well as other third-party systems that need to be integrated with SCADA systems. We offer a wide range of services ranging from entry-level data manipulation, developing custom interfaces between various systems, multi-tiered system support, designing and architecting completely new systems, to developing custom utilities to automate repetitive tasks. In this role, you will serve as the Ignition platform authority - leading solution design, driving billable project delivery, and representing Techneaux's capabilities in pre-sales and client advisory contexts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end design, development, and commissioning of Ignition SCADA/HMI systems for upstream, midstream, and downstream oil & gas clients.
- Architect Ignition solutions including tag structures, UDTs, Vision and Perspective applications, historian configurations, and alarming strategies.
- Integrate Ignition with PLCs, RTUs, DCS platforms, OPC UA/DA servers, MQTT brokers, and SQL/NoSQL databases.
- Perform system migrations from legacy SCADA platforms (Wonderware, FactoryTalk, GE iFIX, Intouch) to Ignition.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients on assigned projects, communicating decisions, risks, and trade-offs in clear, accessible terms.
- Set technical direction on assigned projects, including architecture, integration approach, and implementation standards, and is accountable for the outcomes of those decisions.
- Review technical work product for quality, accuracy, and adherence to established standards, providing immediate feedback when work does not meet requirements.
- Escalate technical decisions that carry significant risk, cost implications, or cross-project impact to the appropriate director or architect level.
- Establish and maintain Ignition development standards, templates, and best practices across the delivery team.
- Mentor and upskill junior and mid-level integrators on Ignition platform, scripting, industrial networking concepts, and professional growth in the discipline.
- Participate in high-stakes or contentious client engagements, including situations where stakeholders may be frustrated or under pressure.
- Participate in client discovery sessions, technical scoping, and proposal development.
- Support business development by contributing technical content to proposals, including approach narratives, scope definitions, and effort estimates.
- Contribute to internal training, methodology documentation, and reusable IP as part of Techneaux's Ignition practice growth.
- Provide advanced customer support for new and existing Ignition-based SCADA systems.
- Ability to travel, if required (up to 25% for client site visits and commissioning).
What you will need to be successful in this role:
- 6+ years of hands-on experience in SCADA/HMI development and industrial automation environments.
- Demonstrated depth with Inductive Automation Ignition - Vision and Perspective modules required.
- Proficiency in Ignition scripting (Python, JavaScript), UDT design, tag historian configuration, and alarm pipelines.
- Experience integrating Ignition with industrial protocols: OPC UA, Modbus TCP/RTU, MQTT (Cirrus Link), Ethernet/IP, DNP3.
- Hands-on PLC/RTU experience: Allen-Bradley, Siemens, ABB, Emerson, or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of SQL databases in an industrial context (MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL as historians or data stores).
- Strong client communication skills - able to lead technical discussions and translate requirements into architecture.
- Ability to manage concurrent deliverables across multiple engagements with minimal oversight.
- Ignition Core Certification (Inductive Automation) required.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, instrumentation & controls, or related field. Relevant technical experience may be a substitute.
- Must be able to work in an open environment, multi-task, and collaborate with others.
- Demonstrate aptitude and willingness to learn and grow while having fun on a dynamic team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ignition Gold Certification (Inductive Automation) - strongly preferred.
- Experience in oil & gas SCADA: pipeline monitoring, tank farm automation, wellhead control, or offshore production.
- Familiarity with OT cybersecurity frameworks (IEC 62443, NERC CIP, NIST SP 800-82).
- Multi-platform SCADA experience: Wonderware/AVEVA, GE iFIX/CIMPLICITY, Rockwell FactoryTalk, or similar.
Pay Range = $90,000 - $115,000 annually
