Job Description

Director of Communications

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Communications based in Canada.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping how a mission-driven mobility technology company is perceived across markets, customers, and industry stakeholders. You will define and scale a unified communications strategy spanning brand, content, PR, social media, and executive messaging. The role sits at the intersection of storytelling and systems design, ensuring that every external and internal narrative reinforces a consistent and measurable brand identity. You will partner closely with executive leadership, product, sales, and marketing teams to align messaging with business priorities and revenue goals. This is a highly strategic position requiring both creative leadership and operational rigor to build scalable communications systems. The work directly influences category perception in the public transit and civic technology space.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead and scale a multidisciplinary communications function across brand, content, PR, social media, and proposals, ensuring consistent narrative execution.
  • Define and evolve the overall brand strategy, including positioning, messaging frameworks, and measurement of brand awareness and reputation impact.
  • Build and operationalize scalable communications systems, workflows, and tools (including AI-enabled processes) to increase output quality and efficiency.
  • Develop and execute integrated content strategies that support both thought leadership and pipeline generation in partnership with marketing and demand generation teams.
  • Own executive communications, including keynote narratives, leadership messaging, presentations, and strategic stakeholder communications.
  • Drive public relations and thought leadership strategy, including media relations, product launches, and industry positioning.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders in product, sales, customer success, and executive teams to ensure narrative alignment across all touchpoints.
  • Establish crisis communication frameworks, media monitoring systems, and competitive intelligence processes to protect and strengthen brand reputation.
  • Support investor and customer communications to reinforce trust, retention, and long-term engagement.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of experience in communications, corporate marketing, PR, or brand leadership within B2B SaaS or mission-driven technology environments.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams across content, brand, communications, and PR functions.
  • Strong ability to define, track, and influence brand or reputation metrics tied to business outcomes.
  • Exceptional storytelling, writing, and messaging skills with the ability to simplify complex technical or industry topics.
  • Experience building narrative systems, positioning frameworks, or communications strategies adopted across organizations.
  • Strong executive presence with experience advising senior leadership on messaging, positioning, and public communications.
  • Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced environments and collaborate across product, sales, marketing, and customer-facing teams.
  • Demonstrated interest in mission-driven work, ideally with exposure to public sector, mobility, or civic technology contexts.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary aligned with experience and geographic location.
  • Equity compensation for all employees.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
  • Retirement plan with employer match.
  • Flexible PTO policy with paid holidays.
  • Home office setup and monthly technology reimbursements (including internet and mobile).
  • Wellness stipend and employee support programs.
  • Paid parental leave supporting birth, adoption, and family care.
  • Flexible, fully remote work environment with periodic in-person offsites.
  • Additional benefits including professional growth opportunities and cross-functional exposure in a mission-driven organization.
