This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Mid-Level AWS/Kotlin Backend Developer based in Brazil.
This is an opportunity to join a strategic technology project focused on building robust, scalable backend solutions in a modern cloud environment.
You’ll work primarily with Kotlin and AWS, contributing to systems where reliability, performance, and security are critical.
The role combines backend engineering with cloud-native development, containerization, messaging, and distributed systems.

AI-assisted development is also part of the engineering environment, with an emphasis on critically reviewing and validating AI-generated output.

- Develop and maintain scalable, reliable backend services using Kotlin, applying sound software engineering and architectural practices.
- Design and operate cloud-native solutions on AWS, including services such as EKS/Fargate, SQS, and DynamoDB.
- Apply AWS Well-Architected Framework principles to improve reliability, security, performance, operational excellence, and cost efficiency.
- Build and maintain event-driven solutions using Kafka and SQS for messaging and streaming.
- Develop containerized applications using Docker and deploy and manage workloads through Kubernetes/EKS.
- Create and maintain comprehensive unit, integration, and performance tests to ensure software quality and production readiness.
- Apply security-by-design principles, including least-privilege IAM, encryption at rest and in transit, and secure secrets management.
- Evaluate technical decisions critically, identify potential improvements, and propose alternative approaches when appropriate.
- Use AI-assisted development tools such as Devin, Claude Code, Kiro, or comparable solutions to accelerate engineering activities while carefully validating generated code and recommendations.
- Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to plan, implement, troubleshoot, and continuously improve backend solutions.
- Take ownership of delivery quality, technical planning, system reliability, and agreed timelines for critical applications.
- Mid-level professional experience in backend software development, with solid hands-on experience using Kotlin.
- Strong practical knowledge of AWS, particularly EKS/Fargate, SQS, and DynamoDB.
- Experience with AWS Well-Architected Framework principles and cloud-native architecture.
- Hands-on experience with Kafka and SQS for messaging, event-driven architectures, or streaming solutions.
- Experience developing and maintaining applications using Docker and Kubernetes, preferably AWS EKS.
- Strong understanding and practical experience with unit, integration, and performance testing.
- Knowledge of secure AWS development practices, including IAM least privilege, encryption, and secrets management.
- Experience with AI-assisted software development tools and the ability to critically review, test, and validate AI-generated code.
- Strong critical-thinking skills, with the confidence to question technical decisions and recommend better alternatives.
- Demonstrated technical curiosity and a willingness to understand the reasoning behind architectures, solutions, and engineering decisions.
- Strong ownership, attention to quality, planning skills, and commitment to delivery timelines.
- Ability to work collaboratively while also operating independently when solving technical problems.
