Job Description

Customer Financial Specialist Associate

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Customer Financial Specialist Associate based in the United States.

As a Customer Financial Specialist Associate, you will support patients through billing, insurance, payment, and financial assistance needs in a fast-paced, service-focused environment. You will handle both inbound and outbound calls, providing clear and empathetic guidance while helping resolve complex account questions. The role combines customer service, accounts receivable, problem-solving, and healthcare financial operations. You will act as a trusted advocate, helping patients understand their options and navigate financial processes with confidence. Collaboration across revenue management and other operational teams will be essential to delivering coordinated solutions and a positive patient experience. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference through every interaction while identifying opportunities to improve processes and service quality.

Accountabilities:
  • Provide responsive, one-stop support to patients by addressing questions, concerns, and issues related to billing, insurance, payments, and financial processes.
  • Conduct engaging inbound and outbound phone conversations, anticipate patient needs, proactively share information, and communicate complex topics in clear, patient-friendly language.
  • Perform accounts receivable activities, including collecting payments, resolving account balances, applying discounts, and establishing and managing monthly payment plans.
  • Educate patients about available financial assistance programs and help them understand applicable billing, insurance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Validate self-pay account status and insurance billing information when necessary, while managing undeliverable patient statements in accordance with established procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with revenue management teams and other internal functions to coordinate financial activities and support a positive patient experience.
  • Partner with staff, customers, and management at different levels to understand business needs and help identify appropriate operational or technical solutions.
  • Work across multiple billing systems and support system or process transitions associated with mergers, acquisitions, and other organizational changes.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, privacy requirements, departmental standards, and internal policies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and patient experiences, and communicate recommendations constructively to relevant stakeholders.
  • Complete assigned reports, projects, and operational tasks accurately and within established expectations.
  • Take a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to challenging interactions, seeking to resolve issues comprehensively rather than addressing individual problems in isolation.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience is required, with customer service experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare billing, accounts receivable, revenue cycle management, insurance, or financial services is advantageous.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to build positive rapport with individuals across a range of situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain financial, billing, insurance, and regulatory information clearly.
  • Strong listening, questioning, and problem-solving abilities, with the confidence to manage complex or sensitive customer interactions.
  • Ability to remain professional, patient, and solution-oriented in a fast-paced call center environment.
  • Strong attention to detail when handling financial accounts, payment information, documentation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple internal teams and stakeholders to coordinate solutions and resolve issues.
  • Comfortable working with billing systems and learning new technologies, processes, and workflows.
  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and communicate recommendations diplomatically.
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality, compliance, accuracy, and delivering a positive customer experience.
Benefits:
  • Full-time, regular position with a 40-hour scheduled work week.
  • Work-from-home flexibility for eligible employees based in Pennsylvania.
  • Day-shift schedule.
  • Healthcare benefits available from day one for full-time and part-time employees.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Benefits and coverage options that extend to domestic partners.
  • Collaborative and supportive work environment focused on cooperation and collegiality.
  • Opportunity to develop experience across healthcare revenue management, patient financial services, billing, insurance, and customer support.
  • Meaningful work directly supporting patients and helping them navigate complex financial processes.
  • Equal opportunity employment environment with consideration for qualified candidates regardless of legally protected characteristics.
