Reports to: Co-CEO of Finance & Operations

Employment status: Full time, on site at the same location

Classification: Exempt

Note: Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not available.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Human Resources leads The Roland Center’s all human resource’s function, combining strategic planning with direct implementation. Working closely with executive leadership, this position strengthens employee engagement and organizational culture while ensuring effective, compliant HR operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Partner with executive leadership to strengthen organizational culture, employee engagement, and workforce planning.
  • Advise leadership on employment compliance, organizational development, and other HR matters.
  • Lead initiatives that support workplace safety, employee wellness, and productivity.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and succession planning.
  • Develop employee retention, recognition, and career development programs.
  • Manage employee relations, including workplace disputes and disciplinary matters.
  • Develop, enhance, and enforce HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Implement performance appraisal processes that support employee development.
  • Coach and train managers and supervisors on leadership and HR processes.
  • Lead positive organizational change and support employee career growth.
  • Coordinate required reporting of new hires and employee separations to the Employment Development Department (EDD).
  • Administer, manage matters related to FMLA, CFRA, FLSA, pregnancy disability leave (PDL), and workers’ compensation.
  • Assess training needs and ensure required training is completed.
  • Monitor and audit employment practices to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws. Review policies and procedures and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Maintain confidential personnel records and track employee certifications to ensure they remain current.
  • Oversee and administer all organizational insurance programs, including workers’ compensation, auto liability, general liability, property, health, and life insurance, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and applicable regulations.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel as needed to address employment matters and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.

    • At least ten years of progressive HR experience, including five years in a leadership role.

    • Demonstrated success implementing HR initiatives and improving operational processes.

    • Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR policies, and best practices.

    • Professional HR certification (such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or SPHR) highly desirable.

    • Reliable transportation.

    • HIPAA certification.

    • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain both within 30 days of employment.

    • Successful completion of DOJ and FBI background checks, TB and drug testing, and medical clearance.
