PURPOSE:

Responsible for review of SEMA Certification applications and testing data for the purposes of issuing Certifications for aftermarket performance products. Must have expertise in automotive powertrain engineering and familiarity with automotive emissions certification tests, CARB Aftermarket Parts (AMP) EO processes and EPA Tampering Policy specifics.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY

  • Interface with SEMA Compliance Center Project Coordinators regarding the development of product information documents and Vehicle Coverage Lists (VCLs)
  • Interface with SEMA members regarding product technical information
  • Develop appropriate test protocols
  • Review emissions test data and compare to standards or baseline test data to determine PASS/FAIL criteria
  • Generate Engineering Evaluation/Reasonable Basis reports
  • Administrate certificate process
  • Review product installation manuals and technical documents to determine the function of and effects from the aftermarket part in order to determine necessary testing to confirm compliance with applicable emissions standards.
  • Other duties may be assigned based on department and company needs.

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to Director of Emissions Compliance
  • Communicates with association Members
  • Communicates with CARB and EPA
  • Communicates with all levels of staff

Pay Range: $100,000 - $120,000

Requirements:

PRIMARY SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Expert knowledge of internal combustion engine operation and automotive emissions
  • Knowledge of vehicle emissions certification standards
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and data analysis software
  • Knowledgeable about the Specialty Automotive Aftermarket parts industry and familiar with the range of parts and systems that typify this market segment
  • Minimum educational requirement: 4-year engineering degree
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Expert knowledge of automotive electronic control systems, including OBD function.
