Education Navigator in Larned/Ellsworth, Kansas at Barton Community College

Position Description: The Education Navigator will provide justice-involved students with information, advice and guidance suitable to the attainment of High School Diploma (GED), career technical education, and academic education. This position will work with the populations at Ellsworth Correctional Facility or Larned State Correctional Facility to provide Information Meetings regarding our program and educational opportunities. The Education Navigator will provide support services for justice-involved students transitioning between BCC's Adult Education and/or Building Academic Skills in Correctional Settings (BASICS) program. Position Responsibilities: 20.00% - Work with receiving facilities to get residents enrolled in educational programming that aligns with the Education and Employment Plan. Identify basic skills and/or developmental learning needs, lead student residents towards an overall plan of completion. 20.00% - Update and maintain proper records to report participation to the Adult Education Data Specialist, Adult Education Coordinator, and the Coordinator of Correctional Education as needed. Conduct records/transcript requests to confirm GED or HSD attainment and gather information to support programming. 10.00% - Work with educational program providers, Instructors, Administrators, and KDOC departments (i.e. Re-Entry, Mental Health, etc.) to ensure the needs of the residents are met and any barriers to education are resolved. Serve as a liaison between residents and College representatives to ensure resident concerns or questions are communicated effectively. 10.00% -

AOK - Work with students, faculty, and program staff to implement the AOK program. Duties include recruitment of students, discussion related to program requirements and follow through with KBOR and Barton Community College reporting requirements. The Education Navigator would be the point of contact for all AOK related events and needs.

15.00% - Recruitment of students promoting Barton's Adult Education, Career Technical Education, and Academic offerings to potential students. Provide informational meetings to our correctional facility students and staff as needed to support program operations and growth. 10.00% - Serve as a mentor and support system to all education students (in all programs) to ensure retention and completion. Track learner attendance, behavior, and progress towards outcomes. 5.00% - Develop Education and Employment Plans utilizing assessment results and learner/resident interviews/discussions. Review resident’s Educational Case Plan (ECP) for interests and skills; coordinate resident's access to educational programs with facility staff. 10.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned Expectations: 1. Ability to coordinate governmental, agency, workforce and client's needs and interests. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience - Two years to five years of similar or related experience. Interpersonal Skills - A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others. Education: - (1) A two year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school Other Skills: - Associate's degree required; bachelor's degree preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions or light industrial settings.

Wages/Other:

The salary range for this position is $42,879.16 or $48,539.21.
