Job Description
AOK - Work with students, faculty, and program staff to implement the AOK program. Duties include recruitment of students, discussion related to program requirements and follow through with KBOR and Barton Community College reporting requirements. The Education Navigator would be the point of contact for all AOK related events and needs.
15.00% - Recruitment of students promoting Barton's Adult Education, Career Technical Education, and Academic offerings to potential students. Provide informational meetings to our correctional facility students and staff as needed to support program operations and growth. 10.00% - Serve as a mentor and support system to all education students (in all programs) to ensure retention and completion. Track learner attendance, behavior, and progress towards outcomes. 5.00% - Develop Education and Employment Plans utilizing assessment results and learner/resident interviews/discussions. Review resident’s Educational Case Plan (ECP) for interests and skills; coordinate resident's access to educational programs with facility staff. 10.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned Expectations: 1. Demonstrate professionalism; maintain confidentiality. 2. Above average communication skills. 3. Knowledge and awareness of partnerships and potential opportunities. 4. Ability to coordinate governmental, agency, workforce and client's needs and interests. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience - Two years to five years of similar or related experience. Interpersonal Skills - A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others. Education: - (1) A two year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school Other Skills: - Associate's degree required; bachelor's degree preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions or light industrial settings.
Wages/Other:The salary range for this position is $42,879.16 or $48,539.21.

Barton Community College seeks a full-time Education Navigator. This position will provide Adult Education students (and potential students) with information, advice, and guidance suitable to the attainment of basic skills (GED), post-secondary career technical and academic education, and employment. This position will work with the populations in the correctional setting primarily at Ellsworth Correctional Facility. The Education Navigator will provide support services for students transitioning from Adult Education to Barton Community College (BCC). Qualified applicants should have a two-year degree; bachelor’s degree preferred and two to five years of similar or related experience; strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
