Senior Manager, Communications

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Manager, Communications based in the United States.

This is a high-impact communications leadership role focused on advancing large-scale initiatives that support clean transportation and climate innovation. You will shape and execute integrated communication strategies that elevate organizational visibility, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and translate complex policy and technical work into compelling narratives. The role blends strategic oversight with hands-on execution across media relations, content development, and digital communications. You will collaborate closely with policy experts, program leaders, and external partners to ensure consistent messaging across all channels. The environment is mission-driven, fast-paced, and highly collaborative, requiring both strategic thinking and strong writing capability. This position is ideal for a communications leader who thrives at the intersection of storytelling, public affairs, and impactful policy-driven work.

Accountabilities
  • Develop and execute integrated communications strategies aligned with organizational mission, programs, and policy priorities.
  • Establish and maintain consistent brand voice and messaging across all channels, ensuring alignment across initiatives and audiences.
  • Serve as a strategic communications partner to internal program and policy teams, translating complex technical topics into clear, compelling narratives.
  • Lead proactive media relations efforts, securing coverage across national, regional, trade, and digital outlets.
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, manage media inquiries, and support spokesperson preparation and messaging.
  • Create high-quality communications materials including press releases, op-eds, reports, newsletters, blogs, and briefing documents.
  • Oversee content strategy and storytelling efforts highlighting program outcomes, policy achievements, and research insights.
  • Collaborate on digital strategy, including website content, social media engagement, and email communications.
  • Plan and execute stakeholder engagement activities such as events, briefings, webinars, and roundtables.
  • Track communications performance metrics and adjust strategies to improve reach, engagement, and overall impact.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, Marketing, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7–10+ years of experience in communications, public relations, or related roles, ideally within nonprofit, policy, or clean transportation sectors.
  • Proven experience supporting or promoting policy initiatives at the federal, state, or local level.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a strong portfolio of communications materials.
  • Strong media relations experience, including securing coverage and managing press engagement.
  • Ability to translate technical, scientific, or policy-heavy content into accessible messaging for diverse audiences.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, mission-driven environments with multiple stakeholders and priorities.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to influence across teams and functions.
  • Experience managing communications campaigns across digital, social, and traditional media channels.
  • Strong analytical mindset with experience tracking communications performance and engagement metrics.
