This is a high-impact technical leadership role focused on shaping and evolving a large-scale open source distributed systems platform. You will work at the core of a widely adopted workflow orchestration engine, influencing critical server components such as task scheduling, workflow execution, visibility, and system reliability. The role blends deep hands-on engineering with architectural ownership, requiring someone who can navigate complex distributed systems challenges while guiding long-term technical direction. You will collaborate closely with engineers, product teams, and open source contributors to improve performance, operability, and developer experience. This is an opportunity to lead meaningful technical decisions in a fast-moving, globally distributed engineering environment. The work directly impacts both enterprise users and the broader open source community relying on mission-critical infrastructure.
- Lead the design and delivery of major server-side features, from early architecture and proposal through implementation and production rollout.
- Define and influence technical direction across core areas such as workflow execution, task scheduling, matching, visibility, and system scalability.
- Solve complex distributed systems problems involving concurrency, fault tolerance, performance optimization, and reliability at scale.
- Partner with cross-functional teams including engineering, product, and customer-facing groups to translate requirements into clear technical solutions.
- Improve operational excellence through better observability, alerting, testing strategies, documentation, and incident response practices.
- Mentor engineers, review designs and code, and help raise the overall technical bar across the team.
- 12+ years of experience building and operating large-scale production distributed systems.
- Strong technical leadership experience, including driving architecture decisions and leading complex engineering initiatives.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems concepts such as concurrency, scheduling, fault tolerance, and performance engineering.
- Strong programming experience in Go, Java, or similar backend-oriented languages.
- Experience with high-scale systems such as orchestration engines, task queues, streaming systems, or similar infrastructure platforms.
- Proven ability to design APIs, platform primitives, or systems used by other engineers or developers.
- Strong operational mindset with experience in observability, debugging, reliability engineering, and production incident handling.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and data systems such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cassandra, or Elasticsearch is a plus.
- Experience contributing to or working within open source ecosystems is highly valued.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in a globally distributed engineering environment.
- Competitive salary range: $260,000 – $325,000 depending on experience and location
- Equity participation in the company’s long-term incentive plan
- Unlimited PTO plus holidays and floating holidays
- 100% employer-covered medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) retirement plan with employer support
