Job Description

Senior/Staff Software Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior/Staff Software Engineer based in the United States.

This role sits at the intersection of modern software engineering and mission-critical public service, supporting the development of a secure, cross-platform situational awareness platform used in high-stakes operational environments. You will design and build full-stack systems that must perform reliably in disconnected, degraded, and resource-constrained conditions. The work spans mobile, desktop, and web from a single shared codebase, with a strong focus on resilience, security, and interoperability. You will collaborate closely with designers, product managers, engineers, and government stakeholders to deliver tools that directly support defense and emergency response operations. This is a highly technical, impact-driven role where engineering decisions have real-world operational consequences. The environment demands strong autonomy, systems thinking, and a commitment to building software that continues to function when infrastructure cannot be relied upon.

Accountabilities:

You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining full-stack capabilities that power a secure, cross-platform operational platform for mission-critical users. Your work will span client applications, backend services, and system integrations in complex and sensitive environments.

  • Engineer and maintain end-to-end features across a shared cross-platform codebase (mobile, desktop, and web), supported by Go-based backend services.
  • Build resilient, offline-first, and real-time capabilities designed for unreliable networks and denied or degraded environments.
  • Implement secure communication patterns including identity, authentication, encryption, and trusted data exchange mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, design, and government stakeholders to define requirements and deliver solutions aligned with operational needs.
  • Integrate with external systems, protocols, and legacy infrastructure to ensure interoperability across a broader system-of-systems ecosystem.
  • Identify system weaknesses, technical debt, and reliability risks, and design improvements that strengthen performance and maintainability.
  • Apply modern engineering practices including automated testing, CI/CD, API-first design, and modular architecture principles.
Requirements

You bring strong full-stack engineering experience and the ability to operate across complex distributed systems. You are comfortable owning features end-to-end and working in environments where reliability, security, and performance are critical.

  • Strong full-stack engineering experience with the ability to work across client applications and backend services.
  • Experience with Flutter/Dart and Go, or strong transferable experience in TypeScript/React plus a statically typed backend language with ability to ramp quickly.
  • Experience building distributed, real-time, or event-driven systems (e.g., WebSockets, pub/sub, offline synchronization, failover handling).
  • Strong understanding of secure software design including authentication, authorization, TLS/mTLS, and token-based security models.
  • Experience working with complex system integrations, including external services, devices, or APIs outside direct control.
  • Familiarity with data persistence concepts and use of relational and/or embedded databases.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals including testing, code quality, and performance optimization.
  • Experience delivering software in regulated, defense, or mission-critical environments is highly valuable.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • U.S. citizenship required, with eligibility for background checks and potential security clearance.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary aligned with seniority and experience ($170,000–$230,000 range depending on level)
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life, disability, and AD&D insurance coverage
  • 401(k) with dollar-for-dollar match up to 10% with no vesting period
  • Flexible paid time off policy plus 11 federal holidays
  • Paid parental leave (up to 12 weeks)
  • Annual professional development and technology stipends
  • Performance bonuses, stock options, and referral rewards
  • Remote-first work environment within the United States
  • Donation matching and additional employee support programs.
