Position Title: Controls Support Engineer

Location: Pineville, North Carolina

Professional Direct Hire

Description: HTI is seeking an experienced Controls Support Engineer for a global leader in industrial furnace manufacturing. This position serves as the critical link between Automation Engineering and Field Service, supporting customers with PLC, controls, HMI, software, and automation-related issues while implementing approved engineering solutions in the field.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial controls, field service, and customer-facing technical support. This role is perfect for either a seasoned field service professional looking to reduce travel while remaining hands-on with technology, or a controls engineer with practical troubleshooting experience who enjoys solving customer problems and implementing solutions. This position is in Pineville, NC, and is Direct Hire, M-F. The pay range is $35-$40/hr depending on experience.

What They Offer:
  • Full Benefits Package – Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401(k)
  • Paid vacation and holidays
  • Collaborative, team-oriented culture
  • Opportunity to work with highly engineered industrial furnace systems and automation technology
  • Exposure to both customer-facing support and engineering project work

What You Need:
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial controls, field service, automation, OEM equipment support, or related technical roles.
  • Strong PLC troubleshooting experience in industrial environments; experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell platforms (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, RSLogix, FactoryTalk) is preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting industrial electrical systems, controls, HMIs, networking, and automation-related equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, PLC logic, and technical documentation.
  • Customer-facing technical support or field service experience with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience supporting equipment startups, commissioning, upgrades, repairs, or reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Visual Basic programming experience, PLC certifications, or a degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Technology, or a related field are a plus.
  • Experience working in OEM, capital equipment, manufacturing, or industrial automation environments preferred.

What Your Role Will Look Like:
The Controls Support Engineer serves as the technical bridge between Automation Engineering, Field Service, and customers. This individual focuses on implementing and supporting automation solutions rather than developing new software, ensuring customers receive timely and effective support for machine controls, PLCs, HMIs, and software-related issues.
.
  • Provide remote and on-site troubleshooting support for customer equipment and automation systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve PLC, HMI, controls, networking, and software-related issues.
  • Remotely access customer equipment to troubleshoot machine performance and operational concerns.
  • Implement approved software updates, bug fixes, and controls modifications developed by Automation Engineering.
  • Identify software bugs, operational issues, and enhancement opportunities and communicate findings to Engineering.
  • Support customer-requested upgrades including operating system migrations, software updates, and controls modernization projects.
  • Assist with installation, commissioning, startup, and upgrade activities for industrial equipment.
  • Document technical findings, corrective actions, and service recommendations.
  • Provide technical support and training to customers and field service personnel.
  • Support root cause investigations and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Service teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Assist Engineering with project implementation and support activities during periods of lower field service demand.
  • Maintain a professional, customer-focused presence while supporting customers worldwide.
  • Follow all company and customer safety requirements while performing technical support activities.
