Job Summary:
Plant Operator is responsible for independent operation and maintenance of a RNG processing plant. This includes but not limited to compression, treating facilities including solvent regeneration, CO2 extraction, gas dehydration, condensate and product storage, truck loading, electrical generation, and other facilities and associated activities. All duties performed must follow safety guidelines and have a safety-first mindset. The Plant Operator carries out directions of the Plant Manager to ensure optimum plant performance and environmental compliance. Work will involve vigorous outdoor activities in ALL weather conditions. The Plant Lead is responsible for leading the team in all operations reporting to the Plant manager.
Responsibilities:
- Proficient in performing all responsibilities.
- Demonstrate advanced computer skills.
- Identify near misses and promote safety culture.
- Troubleshoot common plant upsets and restore operations.
- Understand PLCs and small voltage systems (e.g., 4–20mA outputs, transmitter/control loop power sources)
- Communicate effectively with Field Teams, Landfill, and other stakeholders.
- Span transmitters and program/calibrate PS2s.
- Demonstrate knowledge of plant operations and equipment (blowers, compressors, pumps, motors)
- Lead and coordinate daily operations of plant equipment and systems to ensure safe, reliable production.
- Supervise, mentor, and train Plant Operator staff; assign tasks and monitor performance.
- Monitor plant operations via HMI and other control systems; adjust processes to maintain optimal performance.
- Perform and oversee inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs (including lifting, climbing ladders, confined space entry).
- Manage plant start-ups, shutdowns, and transitions, document operating parameters and deviations.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and process issues, coordinate with maintenance and engineering.
- Enforce safety and environmental compliance, lead incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate logs, reports, and shift handovers; communicate operational status to management and stakeholders.
Qualifications/Experience:
- 3+ years relevant plant operations experience, preferably in landfill gas, cryogenic, or gas processing facilities.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability of all role related responsibilities.
- Ability to interpret Plant SOPs and train others.
- Acts as Safety Team lead, ensuring compliance with safety requirements.
- Demonstrates leadership capacity, managing team morale and cohesiveness.
- Ability to mentor, train and support employees
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully.
- Ability to lead activities, solve problems, and make sound, independent decisions under pressure – requiring little to no supervision.
- Ability to coach employees to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Self-sufficient and goal oriented
- Familiarity with safe handling, storage, and disposal of chelating agents and other process chemicals; experience using MSDS/SDS.
- Experience with chemical dosing systems, metering pumps, pH control, and basic process instrumentation.
- Ability to perform and interpret routine lab tests (titrations, pH, conductivity), experience with field analyzers and basic lab equipment.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve process upsets, optimize chemical usage, and implement corrective actions.
- Certifications or training in HAZWOPER, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, and PPE use preferred; strong safety record.
- Comfortable with computerized control systems (HMI/SCADA), flow computers, and basic PLC interactions.
Requirements:
- Willingness to be trained in reading P&IDs, plant safety procedures, and documentation.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and dedication to team success.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Must clear background check and drug test.
- The ability to communicate effectively.
- The ability to be punctual, dependable, and willing to work long hours if needed is required.
- The ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Must have good manual dexterity with physical ability to work extended hours, climbing, bending, kneeling, working with arms extended above the head, twisting upper body, standing for long periods. This includes walking catwalks, working in confined spaces, exposure to extreme weather conditions, lifting, drivinga vehicle, and operation of light industrial equipment.
- The ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks in extreme weather conditions.
- The ability to work week days and weekends.
- The ability to work overtime and respond to callouts during off hours.
- The ability to respond in a timely manner to any emergency.
Schedule/Shift:
- Overtime required based on operational needs
- On-call availability may be required
- Typical shifts: 10–12 hours (may include overnight)
- Rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays
