Job Description
About Long Tail Health Solutions Inc.
Long Tail Health Solutions is a provider advocate, delivering a suite of technology-enabled services which discover and operationalize payer rules and behaviors to improve the visibility, execution, and outcomes of utilization review, case management, and revenue cycle functions.
Our mission is to optimize the financial performance and work-lives of healthcare providers by eliminating administrative waste with modern technology applied to long tail problems.
The BI Lead owns business intelligence across the company — spanning product analytics, client engagement analytics, and analytics for the company's tech-enabled services. This role synthesizes data into actionable insight and designs, and where appropriate builds, BI capability, partnering with the engineering team on underlying infrastructure rather than owning it directly.
Education and Experience
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or a related field.
- Preferred: Advanced degree, or certifications in BI/analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- 6+ years of experience in business intelligence or analytics, including experience designing BI strategy rather than only executing reporting requests, ideally in healthcare or healthcare-adjacent SaaS.
Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of BI tooling and data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
- Understanding of healthcare SaaS metrics relevant to both product usage (adoption, engagement) and client outcomes (denial overturn rates, utilization review throughput).
- Familiarity with data warehousing and pipeline concepts sufficient to partner effectively with engineering without owning the infrastructure directly.
- Understanding of tech-enabled services delivery models and their relevant operational metrics.
Skills
- Strong analytical and synthesis skills — able to turn raw data into a clear narrative and recommendation for varied audiences (product, client-facing teams, leadership).
- Hands-on BI development skills (dashboard design/build) balanced with strategic thinking about what the company should measure.
- Excellent stakeholder management, translating BI needs from product, client engagement, and services teams into a coherent analytics roadmap.
- Strong prioritization skills to balance BI requests across multiple internal audiences with a small, initially lean team.
- Clear communicator able to present data-driven insights to non-technical and executive audiences.
Primary Job Duties
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- BI Strategy: Define and own the company's BI strategy across product analytics, client engagement analytics, and tech-enabled services analytics.
- Dashboard & Reporting Design: Design, and build where appropriate, dashboards and reports giving product, client-facing, and services teams visibility into key metrics.
- Engineering Partnership: Partner with engineering on the data infrastructure needed to support BI needs, without owning the underlying engineering/infra build.
- Metrics Definition: Define key metrics across product usage, client outcomes (e.g., denial overturn rate, level-of-care accuracy), and services efficiency, in partnership with stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Enablement: Train and enable teams across the company to self-serve insights where appropriate, reducing bottlenecked reporting requests.
- Roadmap Ownership: Prioritize and sequence BI initiatives based on business impact across product, client engagement, and services.
- Executive Reporting: Deliver regular synthesis and insight to company leadership on key business and product trends.
