Voice Communications Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Voice Communications Specialist based in United States.

This remote role supports essential healthcare communications by operating telephone and paging systems with accuracy, professionalism, and urgency.
You will manage incoming and outgoing calls, route communications, and provide reliable assistance to patients, caregivers, physicians, and external callers.
The position plays an important role in coordinating emergency notifications, physician outreach, paging services, and other time-sensitive communications.
You will work with a range of telecommunications, messaging, fax, and paging technologies in a structured healthcare environment.
Strong judgment, attention to detail, and clear communication are essential when handling routine requests as well as urgent situations.
The role also provides an opportunity to develop healthcare operations experience and progress toward other career opportunities within a large health system.
Applicants must reside in Northeast Ohio, and the regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Accountabilities:
  • Receive, screen, and accurately route incoming and outgoing calls while providing directory assistance and information on telephone system usage.
  • Place and record local, long-distance, and international calls for physicians and other healthcare personnel according to established procedures.
  • Coordinate conference call requests and provide patients with dialing assistance, call placement support, and answers to telephone-related questions.
  • Operate overhead and long-range paging systems and process scheduled group alert tests twice daily.
  • Expedite medical emergencies and crisis communications by following established paging and notification procedures.
  • Support staff with out-of-service paging requests by making required programming changes within the paging systems.
  • Operate telephone consoles, auxiliary telephone backup systems, messaging technology, alpha units, facsimile equipment, and related communication systems.
  • Assist personnel in contacting on-call physicians and other on-call resources, including responding to outside callers seeking appropriate medical assistance.
  • Send domestic and international telex-format communications and receive, log, route, and dispatch incoming telex and fax messages.
  • Maintain a high standard of accuracy, confidentiality, responsiveness, and professionalism when handling patient, caregiver, and operational communications.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least 1 year of call center or telephone operator experience, or 2 years of customer service experience.
  • Previous healthcare or healthcare-related experience is preferred.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to exchange information accurately and professionally.
  • Excellent listening skills, sound judgment, and the ability to determine appropriate call routing or escalation.
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and responsive when managing urgent or emergency communications.
  • Comfortable operating computers, telephone systems, paging equipment, fax systems, and other office technology.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow established procedures consistently.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining reliable communication and service standards.
  • Ability to remain stationary and work at a computer for extended periods, with the capacity to use standard office equipment and communicate effectively throughout the workday.
  • Ability to travel throughout the broader health system may be required for certain activities.
  • Ability to move up to 10 pounds may be required in some locations.
  • Compliance with applicable workplace safety requirements, standard precautions, and required personal protective equipment is expected.
  • Employment is contingent upon required pre-employment screening, including controlled-substance testing, and compliance with applicable annual influenza vaccination or approved exemption requirements.
