THE OPPORTUNITY

You will be supporting an individual in their family home, providing support with activities of daily living, personal care, meal preparation and access to the community. This role involves working alongside the family to ensure that the support user is able to achieve the most possible, facilitating growth, independence and learning. You will be working as part of a team of 10 support workers in a close-knit and supportive family-style team which is overseen by the support user’s family.

ROLE SUMMARY

This role involves support with ADLs, supporting the service user to access the community, providing support with routines, personal care and providing positive behaviour support in line with the service users support plan. The service user is very active and loves spending time cycling, swimming or going out; he requires staff who are happy and able to engage in these activities, so this role requires someone who is active, energetic, fun-loving and a driver.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Following schedules in line with service user’s care plan

· Taking time to understand the support needs, interests and preferences of the service user and his family

· Promoting independence and supporting the service user to achieve new things

· Prompting and supervising personal care

· Support to access the community, including driving a manual vehicle

· Giving time, companionship and patience to the service user

· Food preparation in line with food hygiene and dietary restrictions

· Implementing positive behavioural support and applied behavioural analysis program to promote behaviours

· Providing consistency, reliability and routines to create an environment for the service user to grow

· Respecting the service user’s home, family and guests

· Comprehensive use of the English language, good listener, good written and verbal communication

· Effective report writing and documentation

· Building relationships of trust with colleagues, the service user, and his family

· Supporting to maintain routines across different settings

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL

· Genuine passion for supporting people

· Active and energetic individual

· Right to work in the UK (no Sponsorship available for this role)

· Full, clean UK driving license (Manual)

· Team-player able to work alongside others as well as self-motivated and able to complete required tasks

· Willingness to learn to improve in the role and maintain a high quality of support

· Reliable and consistent

· Ability to work in a service user’s own home, with respect for the home, family and guests

· Strong command of the English language, good listener, good written and verbal communication

· All applicants must be okay with dogs as the family have a dog in the home

DESIRABLE

· Prior experience in support work

· A sound understanding of person-centred care, safeguarding, positive behaviour support, and risk management

· A flexible, positive, and person-focused approach.

· Clean enhanced adults DBS check on the update service

· NVQ2 in Health and Social care (or equivalent)
