HCIC Lead Instructor in Fargo, North Dakota at Family Wellness LLC

Position Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to lead, instruct, and conduct safe and effective healthy cooking as part of Family Wellness’s Healthy Cooking in the Classroom (HCIC). This will include travel to host schools, setting up HCIC classes, advising volunteers/support staff, leading the HCIC lesson, working with students to complete lesson tasks, organizing clean-up and prep for follow-up classes, and communication with host school to include office and kitchen staff, students, and teachers. This position is seasonal and ranges between the months of November – February.

Job Specific Competencies:

· Leads HCIC cooking classes while demonstrating ability to effectively teach wellness related or healthy cooking courses in a fun and creative way that engages the participants.

· Ability to adapt instructions based on age group and ability level of participants.

· Organizes and prepares supplies / ingredients as needed.

· Coordinates with host school staff, items such as washrags, supplies, garbage, and storage.

· Keeps HCIC equipment clean, repaired and functional, informing the Culinary Education Coordinator of maintenance needs immediately.

· Basic clean-up after a class has been completed. This includes but is not limited to wiping mats, vacuuming, sanitizing equipment, dishes, and other light cleanup related tasks.

· Pack-up and transport ingredients at the beginning and end of each cooking session.

· Takes inventory for additional supplies and paper products as well as educational materials.

· Promotes all aspects and benefits of the HCIC program in a positive manner.

· Communicates with the Culinary Education Coordinator regarding HCIC schedule, volunteers, host schools, staff and students.

· Be able to provide own transportation to host schools. Mileage reimbursement provided.

· Understand and apply the ability to properly handle food, regulate temperature, avoid cross contamination, and maintain overall food safety.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education, Experience, & Skills (Minimum Requirement):

One year’s experience teaching; wellness education related courses preferred (not required). Understanding of basic nutrition concepts with the ability to lead large groups. Classroom management experience preferred or willingness to learn. Experience in the food service industry required.

Licensure/Certification Requirement(s):

· First Aid and CPR certification required upon hire or obtained within three (3) months of hire.

· Emergency Preparedness Training obtained within three (3) months of hire.

· Nutrition Training completed within three (3) months of hire.
