Job Description
The Forklift Operator safely and accurately operates powered industrial equipment to load and unload trailers, move and store mail and freight, verify quantities, support inventory control, and maintain an organized warehouse. The position supports efficient warehouse flow while following company safety procedures and equipment requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete required forklift training, certification, and workplace evaluation before independent operation.
- Conduct and document required pre-operation equipment inspections and promptly report unsafe conditions or equipment concerns.
- Operate forklifts and related material-handling equipment safely within designated aisles, dock areas, ramps, trailers, and storage locations.
- Load and unload trailers and verify skid, pallet, or shipment quantities against available documentation.
- Place and remove product from racks accurately using radio-frequency equipment and approved warehouse processes.
- Support inventory accuracy by recording, tracking, and reporting material movement in applicable systems.
- Assign or organize storage space and move material to designated warehouse or operational areas.
- Recharge batteries or replace fuel tanks only when trained and authorized and in accordance with safety procedures.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with warehouse supervisors, leads, dock staff, and office personnel.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and perform other related warehouse duties or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- At least one year of warehouse, manufacturing, shipping, or related experience preferred.
- Prior forklift experience preferred; ability to complete company-required forklift training, certification, and practical evaluation is required.
- Ability to read and understand instructions, shipping documents, labels, and safety requirements.
- Ability to use radio-frequency equipment and material-management systems, or ability to learn.
- Knowledge of safe load handling, forklift capacity, load balance, clearance, and operation in narrow warehouse areas.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure in a high-volume warehouse environment.

Working Relationships
Works closely with warehouse leadership, dock personnel, drivers, office staff, and other operational teams to support safe, accurate, and timely movement of mail and freight.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Regularly works in an active warehouse and loading-dock environment with moving equipment, trailers, varying temperatures, noise, and pedestrian traffic.
- Must be able to operate forklift controls using hands, arms, feet, and legs and safely enter and exit equipment.
- Must be able to see and judge distances, clearances, load position, rack height, aisle width, and vehicle movement.
- Must be able to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, turn, and work around warehouse equipment for extended periods.
- Required personal protective equipment must be worn as directed.
