Recreation and Leisure Activity ManagerFull-Time | Residential Services (PRTF & QRTP)
Location: Windwood Campus
Reports To: Clinical Director
Classification: Exempt
The Recreation and Leisure Activity Manager plans, leads, and evaluates therapeutic recreation for youth in Windwood Farm’s 28-bed, 24/7 residential treatment program (PRTF and QRTP), designing individual and group activities aligned with each youth’s treatment goals and equipping Direct Care Workers to lead activities on every shift. The Manager builds community recreation partnerships in the Lowcountry and in the communities to which youth will return. This role matters because recreation is where youth build the leisure skills, creativity, self-esteem, and independence they need for a successful transition home.
How We WorkThe Recreation and Leisure Activity Manager keeps youth safe during every activity and outing, treats youth, families, and partners with dignity and respect for their perspectives and cultural heritage, and connects youth to the community they will return to, following the agency’s CPI philosophy of Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security.
Essential Duties- Assess each youth’s physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs using standardized tools and build individualized recreation plans with measurable goals.
- Plan, lead, adapt, and evaluate individual and group therapeutic recreation activities for PRTF and QRTP residents.
- Create and distribute a quarterly recreation and leisure calendar and submit monthly recreation schedules.
- Prepare and maintain Direct Care Worker activity packs and train staff to lead activities across shifts.
- Coordinate community outings and partnerships with local organizations and providers.
- Host signature events, athletic activities, swimming lessons, and skill-building opportunities.
- Complete Independent Living Skills assessments and design activities that support successful transitions.
- Track client progress and complete required documentation accurately and on time.
- Support youth development through mentoring, recognition programs, and participation in scheduled programming.
- Develop and maintain recreation emergency preparedness plans and participate in quality improvement activities.
- Report safety concerns immediately and fulfill mandated reporter responsibilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or a closely related field; OR
- Associate's degree plus two years of directly relevant experience.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy or Therapeutic Recreation.
Required
- 1-2 years of experience working with youth in a residential, clinical, educational, or camp/recreation therapy setting.
Preferred
- Experience working with youth who have experienced trauma, mental health conditions, or developmental disabilities.
- Supervisory or training experience.
Required
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
- CPI certification.
Preferred
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or eligibility to obtain within 12 months of hire.
- Working knowledge of assessment tools and treatment planning documentation.
- Strong documentation, communication, crisis intervention, and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Basic computer proficiency for documentation and outcome tracking.
Preferred
- Knowledge of recreational and community resources in the Lowcountry.
- Experience training adults to lead youth activities.
- Successfully complete all required background checks and screenings.
- Complete required onboarding and annual training requirements.
- Maintain current CPI, CPR, and First Aid certifications.
- Meet agency driving requirements for transporting youth.
- Report arrests, driver's license suspensions, or workplace injuries within 24 hours.
- Maintain confidentiality and high ethical standards.
- Follow agency infection-control policies and public health guidance.
- On-site position serving youth in the PRTF and QRTP programs.
- Regular outdoor programming and community outings.
- Must be able to participate fully in CPI interventions, including physical restraint.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds.
- May be exposed to loud noise, bodily fluids, and behaviorally challenging situations.
- Schedule includes evenings and weekends as needed for events and outings.
Reports to the Clinical Director. Supervises the Recreation and Leisure Coordinator; trains and supports Direct Care Workers in leading activities and partners with the Volunteer Coordinator.
