Systems Engineer, Journeyman in Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts at SUMARIA SYSTEMS LLC

Systems engineering is essential to ensuring Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) capabilities remain technically sound, interoperable, resilient, and capable of supporting the nation's strategic deterrence mission. Sumaria Systems is seeking a Journeyman Systems Engineer to support the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC), Program Executive Office Nuclear Command, Control and Communications (PEO NC3) mission at Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts.

The ideal candidate has experience working within Air Force or Department of Defense technical environments and can translate operational needs into technical requirements, evaluate system performance and engineering alternatives, maintain technical baselines, and coordinate complex engineering activities across Government and mission stakeholders.

In this role, you will apply systems engineering principles to NC3 acquisition, modernization, integration, sustainment, and mission-worthiness activities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Apply systems engineering principles and methodologies throughout the system lifecycle.

• Support engineering analysis of current and future systems within the NC3 mission architecture.

• Develop, analyze, integrate, maintain, and update system and technical requirements.

• Support requirements management and traceability to ensure operational needs are accurately reflected in system and subsystem requirements.

• Establish, manage, and evaluate program technical baselines.

• Review system and subsystem designs for consistency with approved specifications, interfaces, performance criteria, and mission requirements.

• Support system integration, verification, validation, and system-level testing.

• Review engineering and test results, identify technical deficiencies and risks, and recommend corrective actions.

• Conduct technical research and data analysis supporting NC3 system requirements, modernization efforts, acquisition activities, and mission-worthiness assessments.

• Evaluate new technologies, architectures, requirements, and system concepts for potential impacts to existing and future NC3 capabilities.

• Conduct or support engineering trade studies, technical assessments, and analysis of alternatives to inform Government decisions.

• Identify technical risks, dependencies, and integration challenges and develop recommendations for mitigation or resolution.

• Support Digital Engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) activities as applicable to assigned systems and programs.

• Support configuration management and change-control activities to maintain the integrity of system requirements and technical baselines.

• Coordinate engineering activities across modeling and simulation, cybersecurity, configuration management, logistics, acquisition, and other technical disciplines.

• Participate in technical reviews, program reviews, Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), working groups, and other engineering forums.

• Develop technical documentation, diagrams, presentations, analyses, briefings, and other decision-support products.

• Communicate technical findings, risks, alternatives, and recommendations to Government and program leadership.

Required Skills/Education

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Relevant systems engineering experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements where permitted by the contract.

Years of Experience: Five (5) or more years of relevant systems engineering, system integration, technical analysis, acquisition engineering, or related Department of Defense engineering experience.

Required Qualifications:

• Experience applying systems engineering principles within complex technical environments.

• Experience with requirements development, analysis, management, and traceability.

• Experience evaluating system or subsystem designs, interfaces, performance, and technical requirements.

• Experience supporting system integration, verification, validation, or system-level testing.

• Understanding of technical baseline development and configuration management.

• Ability to evaluate technical alternatives, identify engineering risks, and develop recommendations.

• Experience developing and reviewing technical documentation, engineering analyses, briefings, and decision-support products.

• Understanding of system development and acquisition lifecycle activities.

• Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary Government and contractor engineering teams.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience supporting the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, PEO NC3, or related NC3 programs.

• Experience supporting Air Force acquisition programs at Hanscom AFB.

• Experience with NC3, strategic communications, SATCOM, C5ISR, or other mission-critical communications systems.

• Experience with Air Force or DoD systems engineering and acquisition processes.

• Experience conducting technical reviews, trade studies, system performance assessments, or Analysis of Alternatives.

• Experience with Digital Engineering, Digital Thread, Digital Twin, or Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).

• Familiarity with SysML or related architecture and systems modeling methodologies.

• Experience with requirements-management tools and processes.

• Experience supporting mission-worthiness, readiness, or system-effectiveness assessments.

Travel: Limited travel may be required in support of program objectives.

Security Clearance Required: Tier 5 / Current Top Secret Security Clearance.

Position Type: Full Time

Salary: $115K - $125K
