Job Description

Company Overview

Closer Conveyancing is a dynamic team born in London, Ontario, comprised of law and tech professionals dedicated to enhancing the property closing experience. Our mission is to streamline the property conveyancing process for lawyers and clerks, ensuring it is optimized for today’s needs and future innovations. We pride ourselves on our values of trust, integrity, and delivering a world-class product.

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive, organized, and results-oriented Business Development Representative to join our Sales team.

Closer is a software platform designed to transform how lawyers, clerks, and their clients manage real estate transactions. Reporting to the Business Development Manager, you’ll be responsible for the territory spanning Ottawa and Peterborough through to the East GTA. You’ll research prospective firms, build relationships through face-to-face drop-ins, email, and phone outreach, qualify leads, and book product demonstrations with senior members of our Sales team. You’ll also work closely with Marketing and Design to support campaigns and engagement initiatives that generate interest and nurture prospective customers.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys getting out into the market, building relationships, taking initiative, and creating opportunities from the ground up. You’ll need to be resourceful, self-directed, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

What You’ll Do

Lead Generation & Prospecting:

  • Research and identify new law firms and prospective customers based on our target buyer persona and current lead qualification criteria.
  • Self-source new business opportunities and prioritize high-potential prospects.
  • Perform outbound prospecting through cold calling, cold emailing, drop-ins, and other appropriate outreach methods.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with prospective customers throughout the sales development process.
  • Nurture existing prospects through continued outreach and follow-up.
  • Qualify leads and identify opportunities to book product demonstrations with senior members of the Sales team.
  • Maintain and test various email and call scripts to improve prospect engagement and outreach effectiveness.

Sales & Lead Management:

  • Monitor our website chat platform and respond to inquiries from new prospects.
  • Manage new and active leads through our sales CRM.
  • Keep detailed and accurate records of lead information, call notes, interactions, and pipeline progress.
  • Create and maintain sales forecasts.
  • Track prospect activity and follow up consistently to move opportunities through the sales process.
  • Provide regular updates on lead activity, prospect feedback, and pipeline development.
  • Distill feedback and insights collected from conversations with prospects and share them with Sales, Product, Marketing, and executive leadership.

Marketing & Campaign Support:

  • Work closely with the Marketing and Design teams to support campaigns designed to generate new leads and engage existing prospects.
  • Assist with the development and execution of marketing campaigns across digital and print channels.
  • Provide insights from prospect conversations to help inform messaging, campaigns, and customer engagement initiatives.
  • Support initiatives designed to re-engage prospects who have not responded to previous outreach.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify new opportunities for prospect engagement and business development.

Market & Product Research:

  • Stay up to date with new Closer product features, developments, and capabilities.
  • Maintain an understanding of our target customers, their needs, and the challenges they face.
  • Monitor competitors and stay informed on relevant industry developments.
  • Identify trends, opportunities, and feedback that may help inform Sales, Marketing, and Product initiatives.

Client Meetings & Travel:

  • Travel to law firms and prospective customers within your region to meet with prospects and support business development activities.
  • Build relationships with prospective customers through in-person meetings, demonstrations, and other engagement opportunities.
  • Represent Closer professionally when meeting with prospective customers and industry contacts.
  • Travel is an essential function of this position and is expected to account for no less than 25% of the role.

What You’ll Bring

  • 3+ years of sales or business development experience, preferably in a B2B, SaaS, or technology environment.
  • Proven experience with outbound prospecting, including cold calling, cold emailing, drop-ins, and other lead generation activities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and confidently with prospective customers.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain consistent follow-up, and keep accurate CRM and pipeline information.
  • A proactive, self-directed approach with the ability to take ownership of lead generation and business development activities.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Dependable and positive, with a team-oriented approach to working with Sales, Marketing, Product, and other internal teams.
  • A highly collaborative attitude, with a strong willingness to work as part of a team, share information, and stay closely aligned with colleagues on priorities, activity, and goals.
  • Comfortable working autonomously while also collaborating closely with colleagues and keeping the team informed and in sync.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to stay organized while managing a high volume of prospects and activities.
  • Experience using CRM tools such as Salesforce or Nutshell.
  • Experience selling software or other technology products in a B2B environment.
  • Experience in the real estate, conveyancing, legal, professional services, or SaaS space is an asset.
  • Experience working closely with Marketing teams on lead generation, digital marketing, or campaign initiatives, including SEO, Google Ads, social media advertising, or email marketing.
  • Experience working in a startup or rapidly growing organization.
  • Previous experience in a customer service role.
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Marketing, Sales, Communications, or a related field is an asset.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means consistently building a healthy pipeline of qualified prospects, developing relationships with potential customers, and generating product demonstration opportunities for the Sales team. It also means being an engaged and collaborative member of the team who communicates openly, shares information, and stays aligned with colleagues so everyone is working toward the same goals.

You’ll be successful if you are a self-starter who takes initiative and is resourceful in finding ways to connect with prospective customers. You’ll be comfortable cold calling, researching firms, identifying the right contacts, and making face-to-face drop-ins at law firms to build genuine relationships. You’ll follow up consistently, nurture relationships over time, and bring curiosity, persistence, organization, and a customer-focused approach to every interaction. Just as importantly, you’ll keep your teammates informed, communicate proactively, and work collaboratively to ensure the Sales and Marketing teams remain in sync.
