Veterinary Specialty Hospital North County is seeking an experienced Overnight ECC Assistant Supervisor to support our Emergency and Critical Care team. This floor-first position is approximately 90% hands-on patient care and 10% team leadership and coordination.

Veterinary Specialty Hospital North County is a 24/7, AAHA-accredited specialty and emergency hospital. Our overnight team manages high-acuity emergency cases, critically ill patients, post-operative recoveries, and patients requiring advanced monitoring and treatment.

You’ll remain actively involved in patient care while providing real-time direction, coaching, and support to the overnight team. This position is ideal for an experienced ECC professional who remains calm under pressure and is comfortable making timely decisions when overnight resources are limited.

• Support the triage, stabilization, treatment, and ongoing care of emergency and critically ill patients.
• Assist with catheters, CRIs, transfusions, ventilator management, advanced anesthesia, and patient monitoring.
• Support emergency procedures and surgeries, including GDVs, thoracotomies, and other life-saving interventions.
• Monitor specialty and post-operative patients throughout the overnight shift.
• Serve as the primary floor leader for overnight technicians and veterinary assistants.
• Provide real-time coaching, troubleshooting, and escalation support during high-acuity cases.
• Coordinate emergency intake, patient flow, inpatient care, and overnight discharges.
• Maintain accurate patient information and medical documentation in the hospital’s PIMS.
• Ensure clear and complete handoffs to daytime teams.
• Keep ECC treatment areas, equipment, medications, and supplies organized and ready.
• Identify workflow, training, equipment, or supply needs and communicate them to hospital leadership.
• Support overnight scheduling, team training, and operational improvements.

• Minimum of two years of veterinary experience, preferably in emergency, critical care, or specialty medicine.
• At least one year of management, supervisory, or team-leadership experience.
• Experience supporting unstable patients, advanced anesthesia, CRIs, ventilators, transfusions, and post-operative care.
• Proficiency using a veterinary practice information management system, or PIMS, for medical documentation and patient tracking.
• Experience coordinating patient flow and maintaining an organized ECC treatment area.
• Confidence coaching employees, assigning responsibilities, and supporting team performance.
• Ability to remain calm, decisive, and organized during high-pressure overnight situations.
• Strong clinical judgment and the ability to recognize when concerns require escalation.
• Clear and professional communication with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, clients, and hospital leadership.
• Availability to work Thursday through Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
