Description:

Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) drives dramatic improvements in the health of New Yorkers by feeding people who are hungry, healing families broken apart by violence, and bridging the gaps between people and the compassionate health care they deserve. CHASI provides outreach, education, prevention, and direct support services for populations most affected by health disparities – people with low or no income, low-income people with chronic illnesses, people with criminal justice involvement, people who use drugs, domestic violence survivors, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Recovery Supports and Training is responsible for the development and management of a peer-led, 24/7 Resource & Recovery Center to support people in all stages of recovery and managing the training program at Next Step. The Director is responsible for facilitating the design and implementation of outreach events, volunteer recruitment, training and retention, and support of all Recovery Center services. The Director is responsible for the delivery and implementation of a core training curriculum that includes substance use recovery, recovery coaching, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and professional ethics/ training for emerging peer leaders. The Director will supervise temporary part-time Intern Recovery Coaches, who are graduates of Recovery Coach training. The Director is responsible for facilitating the design and implementation of outreach events, volunteer recruitment, training and retention, and support of all Recovery Center services. The Director will oversee and manage workforce development through the supervision of a Job Developer. In addition, the Director will develop learning collaboratives to support the placement and supervision of trained peers in healthcare, treatment, and social services across Staten Island.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct and support curriculum development and evaluation of modules related to harm reduction, substance use, recovery support, thriving in the workplace, and skills for working with clients; ensure fidelity of implementation.
  • Develop and deliver training agenda and activities. Flex between project management and trainer roles.
  • Establish the policies and procedures related to peer training recruitment, training design, and implementation
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local community providers and groups serving persons with substance use disorders.
  • Organize peer-led recovery support services
  • Create and maintain the Recovery Center and Institute’s online presence
  • Supervise, recruit, screen, orient, train, schedule, evaluate, and recognize Recovery Coach Interns (part-time temporary employees), a Training Coordinator, a Vocational Coordinate, Work Force Developer, and Center volunteers
  • Work collaboratively with other Resource and Recovery Center leadership and staff to organize and deliver a range of 24/7 opioid response and recovery services
  • Coordinate with CHASI departments and programs to encourage collaboration and utilization of the Resource Center services
  • Serve as staff lead on Recovery events committee
  • Conduct online research and attend continuing education programs/seminars designed to enhance professional competence
  • Design and facilitate learning collaborative sessions for Next Step staff
  • Submit program documentation and reports as assigned
  • Ensure all deliverables are fulfilled and conduct quality assurance and continuous quality improvement activities

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 4 years of experience providing peer-led recovery support services and/or facilitation of training on topics related to substance use disorder, harm reduction, or recovery coaching required. Degree beyond the minimum requirement in a related field may be considered as a supplement some years of experience
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory and program management role
  • Bachelor’s degree required; significant related experience beyond the minimum requirement may be considered as a supplement a 4-year degree.
  • Demonstrated ability and/or commitment to working effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds with sensitivity to ethnic, cultural, and sexual minorities
  • Knowledgeable with harm reduction and trauma-informed practices, philosophy, and interventions
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver training and support
  • Dynamic communicator adept at engaging with clients, staff, and management verbally and in written format
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, quick to adapt to new tools

*Must live in location that allows for the ability to respond to an on-site crisis in person within 2 hours, as needed

Position Status: Full Time

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay & Benefits: 66,300-71,300 annually, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity.
