Job Description

The Infectious Disease Physician (IDP) is an expert in infectious disease management, responsible for delivering advanced and comprehensive clinical and preventative care, intervention strategies, and multidisciplinary care coordination to improve community health, patient outcomes, and the quality of life for patients living with HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B (HBV), Hepatitis C (HCV), and related infectious diseases to diverse, underserved, high-risk populations.

The IDP is also responsible for managing the departmental strategy, clinical operations and clinical team, oversee and quality outcomes to meet patient, programmatic, and organizational expectation,

Clinical Care & Disease Management

· Diagnose, treat, and manage patients with HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and co-infections.

· Develop individualized treatment plans utilizing current evidence-based antiviral therapies and clinical guidelines.

· Monitor patient progress, viral suppression, liver function, medication adherence, and treatment response.

· Identify and manage opportunistic infections, liver disease complications, and co-morbid conditions.

· Provide interventional care strategies for high-risk patients and complex infectious disease cases.

· Conduct comprehensive infectious disease assessments and risk evaluations.

Preventive Care & Patient Intervention

· Provide HIV prevention services, including PrEP, PEP, STI screening, counseling, and vaccination programs.

· Deliver Hepatitis prevention education, screening, vaccination, and harm reduction interventions.

· Promote early detection and intervention for communicable diseases within at-risk populations. Support patient adherence through counseling, education, and behavioral intervention strategies.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

· Coordinate care with hepatologists, infectious disease specialists, pharmacists, behavioral health providers, case managers, and social workers.

· Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and case review meetings.

· Collaborate with public health agencies and community outreach programs to improve access to care.

Leadership & Program Development

· Assist in developing HIV and Hepatitis treatment protocols and intervention programs.

· Support quality improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance efforts.

· Mentor clinical staff, residents, fellows, and allied healthcare professionals.

· Participate in clinical research, grant initiatives, or public health projects as applicable.

Documentation & Compliance

· Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in compliance with organizational, state, and federal regulations.

· Ensure adherence to CDC, HRSA, OSHA, and infectious disease treatment standards.

· Participate in audits, peer reviews, accreditation activities, and reporting requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION AND COMPETENCIES· Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.· Active and unrestricted medical New York State license.· Board certification in Internal Medicine or Infectious Disease.· AAHIVM HIV Specialist credentials. · DEA registration and controlled substance certification as required.· Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical experience in HIV, Hepatitis, infectious disease, or related specialty care preferred. · Experience treating HIV/HBV/HCV co-infected patients strongly preferred. · Familiarity with liver disease management and antiviral treatment protocols. · Experience working with underserved or high-risk populations preferred.· Advanced knowledge of HIV and Hepatitis treatment guidelines and emerging therapies. · Strong clinical assessment and intervention planning skills. · Knowledge of liver disease progression, antiviral therapies, and infectious disease prevention. · Bedside mannerism, emotionally intelligent, and compassionate.· Excellent communication, patient counseling, and interpersonal skills. · Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams. · Strong commitment to culturally competent and patient-centered care. · Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems.· Strong written and verbal communication.· Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.· Time management and deadline adherence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION AND COMPETENCIES· Experience in community health, public health, or correctional healthcare settings. · Bilingual or multilingual communication skills. · Clinical research experience in HIV, Hepatitis, or infectious disease medicine. · Familiarity with Ryan White Program and viral hepatitis public health initiatives. · Experience with telemedicine and remote patient monitoring platforms.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES ;This position supervises the Nurse practitioner and oversees program deliverables.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Outpatient clinics, hospitals, specialty infectious disease centers, or community health organizations.
  • May require occasional evening, weekend, or on-call coverage.
  • Exposure to infectious diseases and clinical healthcare environments.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to speak, sit, stand, and walk for extended periods during clinical shifts,
  • Ability to bend, reach, lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist movements required for computer and medical equipment use.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff in person and via telephone or electronic systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and document medical information accurately in electronic health record systems.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency or high-acuity clinical situations.
  • Manual dexterity to perform medical examinations and minor clinical procedures.
  • Visual acuity for reviewing medical records, laboratory results, diagnostic imaging, and medication information.
  • Ability to work in environments with exposure to infectious diseases while adhering to appropriate safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Ability to travel between clinics, hospitals, or community-based care locations as needed.

TRAVEL

Some travel is expected between BMS sites and company events, outside training, and other business travel, as needed.
