The Senior Legacy Conversion Consultant will play a key role in analyzing, migrating, and modernizing enterprise applications while supporting technical delivery across complex transformation programs. Responsibilities include:
- Analyze and assess legacy applications, particularly those developed using CA Gen, to determine modernization and migration strategies.
- Execute application migration projects using automation tools and structured conversion approaches.
- Apply technical enhancements, fixes, and optimizations throughout the migration lifecycle.
- Define migration approaches for application components, including database access, online transactions, batch processing, user interfaces, and application architecture.
- Support phased migration strategies and deliver converted applications across various target platforms, including mainframe environments and modern technology stacks.
- Validate migrated applications to ensure functional consistency, performance, maintainability, and technical quality.
- Document migration standards, reusable frameworks, technical processes, and best practices to improve future modernization initiatives.
- Collaborate with technical leaders, architects, and stakeholders to establish migration roadmaps and delivery strategies.
- Support technical proposals, project documentation, and client-facing discussions related to modernization solutions.
- Contribute to improving automation tooling, migration methodologies, and modernization practices.
- Engage with customers and technical teams to explain migration approaches, progress, and outcomes.
The ideal candidate is a technically skilled consultant with strong experience in legacy application modernization, migration projects, and enterprise systems transformation. Required qualifications and skills include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong commercial experience with CA Gen (Cool:Gen) and legacy application environments.
- Proven experience delivering application migration, modernization, conversion, or re-platforming projects.
- Strong understanding of Gen Models, Action Diagrams, Business Components, Data Models, Data Structures, online transaction processing, batch processing, relational database access, performance tuning, and UI implementation.
- Experience working with mainframe environments, including exposure to 3270 block-mode applications.
- Familiarity with technologies such as COBOL (CICS, IMS-DC, DB2), Java, .NET, Spring Boot, Angular, and cloud platforms.
- Experience using automation tools for application migration or conversion initiatives.
- Knowledge of XML or model extraction approaches used in modernization projects.
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and business stakeholders in enterprise environments.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative engineering team.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience with MigrationWorks or similar application migration tooling.
- Background supporting structured Gen conversion or regeneration programs.
- Experience delivering migrations across multiple target platforms, including COBOL, Java, .NET, Angular, or cloud environments.
- Familiarity with mainframe tools such as ISPF, JCL, SPUFI, and SCLM.
- Experience with CI/CD tools including Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
- Experience contributing to migration frameworks, automation solutions, or enterprise modernization initiatives.
