The Inpatient Telephonic Staff Pharmacist will deliver high-quality remote pharmacy services while supporting hospital partners with clinical expertise, medication verification, and operational guidance. This role requires strong attention to detail, adaptability across multiple systems, and a commitment to patient safety and regulatory compliance.
- Perform remote order entry, medication order verification, drug verification, and patient or healthcare provider counseling.
- Provide clinical pharmacy support, including therapeutic recommendations, dosing adjustments, drug interaction reviews, compatibility guidance, and infusion-related recommendations.
- Support safe medication practices involving IV fluids, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), narcotic and cardiac infusions, IV antibiotics, chemotherapy, and other complex therapies.
- Provide clinical guidance for diverse patient populations, including pediatric, geriatric, pregnant, nursing, renal impairment, hepatic impairment, and HIV patients.
- Investigate and resolve medication-related variances and document interventions, recommendations, and clinical activities accurately.
- Operate effectively across multiple hospital pharmacy information systems and maintain accurate documentation.
- Ensure compliance with pharmacy laws, regulations, internal procedures, and client-specific standards.
- Troubleshoot basic technical issues involving pharmacy systems, connectivity, VPN access, and related software tools.
- Participate in ongoing training, clinical updates, system enhancements, and policy education.
- Maintain required licenses, credentials, system access, and productivity standards.
The ideal candidate is a licensed pharmacist with inpatient hospital experience and strong clinical judgment. You should be comfortable working independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with healthcare teams and adapting to different pharmacy technologies.
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy required; PharmD preferred.
- Active and unrestricted pharmacist license in Pennsylvania required.
- Additional state pharmacist licenses preferred, including OH, MA, RI, DE, ME, NH, and CT.
- Minimum of 2 years of inpatient hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
- Overnight inpatient hospital pharmacy experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of clinical pharmacy practices, formulary management, and Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) procedures.
- Experience supporting medication management workflows in hospital environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated customer service abilities.
- Ability to provide clear clinical recommendations and collaborate with nurses, physicians, and pharmacy teams.
- Familiarity with client/server applications and pharmacy information systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Drive, email platforms, internet tools, and related software.
- Ability to work remotely with a reliable cable broadband or fiber internet connection meeting required speed standards.
- Hospital residency and board certification are preferred but not required.
- Competitive hourly compensation range of $54 - $91 USD per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.
