Job Description
Grimes & Company Wealth Management, LLC is a thriving Registered Investment Advisory firm headquartered in Westborough, Massachusetts, with satellite offices and employees strategically located across the U.S. Recently named one of the 2025 Best RIAs to Work For, we are committed to helping individuals and families achieve their financial goals through personalized advice, exceptional service, and long-term relationships.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Financial Planning and Advisory Associate with 3 to 5 years of experience to join our centralized Financial Planning team. This role is designed for a financial planning professional who enjoys working collaboratively and wants to build deeper technical expertise while developing client advisory experience as part of a team.
The Financial Planning team works across the firm, partnering with Financial Advisors and other specialists to develop comprehensive financial plans and deliver coordinated advice to clients. This role will contribute to that firmwide planning work while also being part of the team responsible for advising clients. Rather than operating independently, you will work alongside colleagues to collectively support client relationships, participate in client meetings, develop recommendations, and help ensure clients receive consistent, thoughtful advice as their needs evolve.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning
- Work collaboratively with the Financial Planning team and advisors across the firm to gather and analyze client financial data and develop comprehensive financial plans.
- Analyze client information and prepare planning recommendations related to retirement, investments, tax planning, estate planning, insurance, charitable giving, and education funding.
- Develop, maintain, and update financial plans using planning software such as MoneyGuidePro.
- Research financial planning strategies and stay informed of developments in tax, estate, and financial planning regulations.
- Prepare financial planning reports, presentations, and recommendations that support team-based advice and client meetings across the firm.
- Collaborate with advisors, planning team members, and, as appropriate, clients and their external professionals, including attorneys and accountants, to coordinate planning strategies.
Client Advisory & Relationship Management
- Work as part of the emerging wealth advisory team supporting client relationships, providing financial planning guidance, ongoing advice, and responsive client service.
- Participate in and, as experience grows, help lead meetings with emerging clients, including discovery, plan presentations, regular reviews, and follow up communications.
- Work with the team to implement planning recommendations, track action items, and coordinate follow-through for emerging clients while also supporting planning needs for clients across the firm.
- Build relationships with emerging clients as part of the broader advisory team, helping provide continuity, proactive communication, and increasingly sophisticated advice as client needs grow.
- Contribute to a consistent, high-quality client experience by working closely with colleagues and following the firm's fiduciary standards.
Operations & Team Collaboration
- Maintain accurate CRM records, workflows, and task management systems.
- Prepare investment reviews, performance summaries, and other client reporting materials.
- Collaborate closely with advisors, planners, and specialists across the firm as part of a centralized planning and advisory team to deliver consistent, holistic advice.
- Support departmental initiatives, process improvements, and strategic projects.
- Ensure adherence to firm compliance policies and regulatory requirements.
- 3 to 5 years of financial planning, wealth management, or advisory experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree required; finance, accounting, economics, or related field preferred.
- CFP® designation or active pursuit of CFP® certification strongly preferred.
- Experience with financial planning software such as MoneyGuidePro or eMoney preferred.
- Strong understanding of financial planning principles, investments, retirement planning, tax planning, and estate planning concepts.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
- Demonstrated emotional intelligence and relationship management abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively, share responsibility for client outcomes, and contribute positively within a team based advisory environment.
