Description:

The CNC Machinist/Programmer sets up, programs, and operates CNC mills and lathes to produce precision parts that meet print and quality requirements. This role has a strong emphasis on CNC programming, including developing, editing, and optimizing programs using GibbsCAM software. The ideal candidate has a strong CNC programming background and experience with both milling and turning operations, or a solid programming foundation with the willingness and ability to learn GibbsCAM. This role supports safe, efficient production through strong machining skills, attention to detail, quality workmanship, and continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program, set up, and operate CNC mills and lathes to produce precision parts according to blueprints, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Develop, write, edit, and optimize CNC programs using GibbsCAM and G and M codes.
  • Set up CNC machines, including selecting and installing tooling, setting tool offsets, loading programs, and establishing work coordinates.
  • Prepare and preset tools required for each job.
  • Load and unload raw material and finished parts and safely operate CNC equipment throughout the production process.
  • Make program adjustments and machining corrections as needed to maintain part quality and improve cycle times.
  • Inspect and measure parts during production runs using appropriate precision measuring tools and equipment.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and machining specifications.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to machining processes, tooling, programming, safety, quality, and throughput.
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and programming issues and work with teammates to resolve problems.
  • Work effectively with production, engineering, maintenance, and other team members to support production needs.
  • Train or provide support to less experienced team members, as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow company safety, quality, and work rules and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong CNC programming experience with the ability to develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs.
  • Experience using GibbsCAM is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates with strong CNC programming experience using other CAM software (such as Mastercam or SolidWorks CAM) and a willingness to learn GibbsCAM will be considered.
  • Experience programming, setting up, and operating both CNC mills and CNC lathes.
  • Experience with 3- and 4-axis machining centers.
  • Working knowledge of G and M codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and machining specifications.
  • Strong understanding of CNC setup, tooling, offsets, feeds and speeds, and machining processes.
  • Comfortable balancing programming, machine setup, production, and in-process quality inspections.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining and programming issues and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Previous experience with CNC pallet systems is preferred; experience with Haas pallet systems is a plus.
  • Ability to operate a forklift and/or pallet jack safely and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, organized work area and follow company safety and quality requirements.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 60 pounds occasionally.
