Staff Automation Engineer - Internal Audit

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Automation Engineer - Internal Audit based in the United States.

This role is focused on transforming internal audit operations through advanced automation, artificial intelligence, and process engineering.
You will design and build intelligent systems that enable continuous assurance and provide real-time risk insights.
The position combines workflow optimization, AI agent orchestration, and data-driven solutions to modernize audit practices.
You will partner with cross-functional teams to replace manual processes with scalable, automated frameworks.
The role offers the opportunity to experiment with emerging AI technologies and shape the future of enterprise audit capabilities.
You will play a key part in creating secure, explainable, and impactful automation solutions across financial, IT, and operational domains.

Accountabilities:
  • Analyze and redesign complex audit workflows by identifying automation opportunities across risk assessment, testing, and remediation processes.
  • Apply process engineering and Lean/Six Sigma principles to improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, and create scalable audit operating models.
  • Develop AI-powered workflows using platforms such as Vellum AI, Copilot Studio, and Claude to automate control mapping, documentation, analysis, and reporting activities.
  • Design and maintain AI agent libraries, prompt registries, and governance frameworks to ensure consistent and secure use of AI within audit processes.
  • Build agentic automation solutions using tools such as Microsoft Power Automate, Make.com, or similar platforms to manage approvals, exceptions, and system updates.
  • Integrate automation solutions with GRC platforms, audit tools, and business systems to improve audit visibility and operational effectiveness.
  • Create real-time risk dashboards and reporting solutions using tools such as Power BI or Tableau to provide actionable insights.
  • Establish AI governance practices, including validation checkpoints, explainability standards, and compliance controls for sensitive audit data.
  • Ensure automated processes maintain strong auditability, privacy, and regulatory alignment.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, Accounting with strong technical expertise, or a related field.
  • 5–8+ years of experience in audit transformation, process improvement, business systems engineering, or automation-focused roles.
  • Strong experience designing and implementing AI-powered workflows, including LLM orchestration using platforms such as Vellum, LangChain, Copilot Studio, or similar technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of automation platforms such as Power Automate, Zapier, Make.com, n8n, or comparable solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL, Python, data governance practices, and modern data platforms such as Snowflake or Databricks.
  • Familiarity with audit technology solutions such as DataSnipper, Alteryx, MindBridge, or custom AI-based audit tools.
  • Experience working with analytics and visualization platforms including Power BI or Tableau.
  • Strong understanding of AI governance, privacy requirements, explainable AI, and human-in-the-loop validation approaches.
  • Industry experience in manufacturing, government contracting, or highly regulated environments is a plus.
  • Passion for emerging AI technologies, continuous learning, experimentation, and implementing innovative solutions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical, business, and audit stakeholders.
