Job Description
The Social Services Specialist 1 serves as the primary case manager in the Wayne County Juvenile and Youth Services department. The Social Service Specialist 1 is responsible for providing case management services to the residents to ensure that the resident has maximum exposure to constitutionally mandated services and other programs.
Responsibilities
Required Tasks
Proactively identify and connect with at-risk youth in the community.
• Provide guidance, support, and resources to youth involved in the legal system, including those with out-of-custody warrants.
• Conduct needs assessments to determine appropriate interventions and services.
• Develop individualized action plans in collaboration with youth and relevant stakeholders.
• Monitor youth progress and provide ongoing support and advocacy.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with schools, acting as a resource and liaison for at-risk youth.
• Collaborate with community partners, such as social service agencies, mental health providers, and law enforcement, to create a network of support for youth.
• Participate in community events and initiatives focused on youth development and well-being.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of youth interactions and services provided.
• Enter data into the JAIS computer system for tracking and reporting purposes.
• Develop and continuously update a resource booklet with comprehensive information on available services for at-risk youth.
• Assist in the development and implementation of new programs and initiatives to address emerging needs of at-risk youth.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements
- Associates Degree in Social Work or other related human services area.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in child welfare, juvenile justice, mental health or other setting providing services to youth and families.
Special Conditions:
Candidates must receive Child Welfare Licensing/Child Protective Services clearance.
Types of Assessments
A Personal Qualifications Assessment worth 100% will be administered including interpersonal skills such as decision-making, judgment, communication and ability to work with others and establish professional relationships.
