Summary
The Warehouse Lead provides hands-on, day-to-day work direction to a warehouse crew within an assigned shift and zone, working alongside the team to ensure coverage, productivity, safety, and inventory accuracy in a continuous 24/7 food-manufacturing operation. The role sets the pace and distributes tasks across receiving, staging, transfer, production feed, and shipping; verifies that material flows on time to the connected production line and other facilities; and maintains accurate Fishbowl transactions. When assigned to the transfer function, the role also helps coordinate and document inter-facility transfers of raw and mid-stage materials in response to production demand. The Lead trains and guides the crew, enforces GMP/SQF and safety standards by example, and reports crew and zone performance to the Warehouse Supervisor.
Responsibilities
Crew Leadership & Task Coordination
• Provide hands-on work direction to the crew for the shift; distribute tasks and help ensure coverage across the assigned zones and functions.
Set the work pace and adjust task assignments in real time to meet receiving, staging, production-feed, transfer, and shipping demand.
Serve as the first point of contact on the floor and deputize for the Warehouse Supervisor when asked.
Inventory Accuracy & Control
• Monitor bin accuracy, perform and support cycle counts, and work with WMS operators to maintain precise inventory in Fishbowl.
Ensure transfer, receipt, consumption, and shipment transactions are executed and tracked accurately; investigate and correct discrepancies with traceability.
Operational Flow & Transfer Management
• Ensure smooth material flow from receiving to staging, production feed, transfer, and shipping.
Support coordination of inter-facility transfers of BOM raw goods and mid-stage items with production planners, drivers, and receiving teams; verify documentation (BOL/transfer orders).
Ensure daily truck/trailer inspections are completed before loading and unloading.
Communication & Reporting
• Report daily progress, headcount, production feed, returns, and KPIs; highlight issues and needs to the Warehouse Supervisor.
Communicate priorities and changes clearly to the team and partner departments.
Safety, Food Safety & Equipment
• Perform daily safety walks; verify PIT checklists, PPE, and SOP/GMP compliance.
Enforce food-safety, sanitation, allergen, and 5S standards; support audit readiness and corrective actions.
Guide and coach crew members on productivity, quality, attendance, and safe behavior, and escalate performance concerns to the Warehouse Supervisor.
Physical Requirements
Environment Able to work a rotating/continuous-operation schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays. Frequent standing and walking; occasional lifting to 50 lbs.; warehouse temperature, dust, and noise exposure.
Qualification
Professional Experience 2–3 years of warehouse experience, preferably in CPG/food manufacturing; prior lead, trainer, or crew-coordination experience preferred but not required. Experience with receiving, transfers, and inventory control.
Education
High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree or relevant coursework preferred.
Computer / System Skills
(Fishbowl WMS) Experience with a WMS/ERP (Fishbowl preferred) and RF/barcode scanning; proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
Certifications / Licenses
Forklift / PIT operator certification required (or obtained during onboarding). OSHA 10, HACCP, or SQF awareness is a plus—valid driver’s license.
Language Skills
Fluent English required. Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
