Job Description
JOB SUMMARY: The Overnight Lead/Swing Driver coordinates the overnight cross-dock workflow that prepares Baltimore delivery routes for on-time departure. This role prepares route paperwork, unloads and reloads the warehouse shuttle, loads local delivery vehicles, verifies route readiness, and checks out each driver. As a swing driver, the position also provides route coverage when needed. The role combines hands-on warehouse work, driver support, careful documentation, and early-morning decision-making.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Prepare complete and accurate route packets for Baltimore departures, including manifests, invoices, delivery instructions, keys, devices, and other required materials.Receive the warehouse shuttle and verify trailer condition, seal information, load documentation, and transferred product before unloading.Unload shuttle freight safely and accurately; identify, separate, and stage product by route, stop sequence, and temperature zone.Reload the shuttle with properly documented returns, empty pallets, reusable equipment, paperwork, and other goods designated for Bensalem.Load local cross-dock delivery vehicles accurately and in a safe delivery sequence while protecting dry, refrigerated, and frozen product.Verify each route's freight and paperwork and report shortages, overages, damages, temperature concerns, or missing items before departure.Check out each route and driver, confirming the assigned vehicle, paperwork, special instructions, required equipment, product security, and departure readiness.Direct overnight workflow and provide task guidance to other depot employees assigned to loading or cross-dock activity.Communicate late shuttle arrivals, incomplete loads, staffing gaps, vehicle issues, and other departure risks to the Depot Supervisor or Logistics Manager.Provide backup delivery-route coverage as assigned and complete all driver responsibilities safely, professionally, and in compliance with company and DOT requirements.Maintain clean, orderly, and secure dock, staging, paperwork, and loading areas throughout the shift.Operate pallet jacks and other authorized material-handling equipment safely and complete required inspections.Follow food-safety, product-handling, temperature-control, security, and workplace-safety procedures.Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.At least two years of delivery driving, warehouse loading, cross-dock, transportation, or related distribution experience preferred; lead experience is a plus.Valid Class B commercial driver's license, current DOT medical certification, and acceptable motor vehicle record required, unless the company designates otherwise for assigned equipment.Ability to satisfy all applicable DOT and company driver-qualification, testing, and safety requirements.Experience handling refrigerated and frozen food products preferred.Ability to read route paperwork, verify counts and item information, and use warehouse systemsPallet-jack experience required; forklift certification or the ability to become certified preferred.
- Ownership and Initiative: Takes responsibility for overnight route readiness and follows issues through to resolution.Attention to Detail: Verifies paperwork, product, counts, route sequence, temperatures, and driver materials.Organization and Time Management: Prioritizes shuttle, loading, and check-out work against firm departure deadlines.Communication: Gives drivers and management clear, timely information about instructions and operating exceptions.Safety and Compliance: Works safely around equipment and vehicles and follows food-safety, DOT, and company procedures.Flexibility: Moves between lead, warehouse, and driving responsibilities as operating needs change.Attendance and Punctuality: Reports reliably and on time for the full overnight schedule.
- Work is performed primarily in an active cross-dock and loading environment during overnight and early-morning hours.Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing into vehicles, and repetitive material handling.Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.Regular exposure to refrigerated, frozen, outdoor, and changing warehouse temperatures.Ability to operate commercial vehicles and authorized material-handling equipment safely for extended periods.Ability to work the assigned overnight schedule and additional hours when route coverage or operating needs require
