Job Description

Food & Beverage Manager Position Overview:

The Food & Beverage Manager is an important member of our leadership team and is responsible for ensuring that guests visiting VELA and Deck12 enjoy a dining experience that is exemplary. This role oversees all aspects of the Dining Rooms, including training and supervising the crew.

Food and Beverage Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all crew members arrive to work per scheduled time
  • Ensure bar area and BOH area set up for success
  • Create checklists for opening and closing side work and follow up on completion
  • Check grooming of all employees on the floor
  • Check correct table setting prior to and during the service, make sure all areas look welcoming for guests to eat
  • Assist managers in the implementation of training for T.I.P.S.
  • Assist and give input in menu and concept development and assist in coordinating the timely implementation of new menus where appropriate.
  • Assisting in the interviewing of crew candidates, provide recommendations for hiring, terminations, advancement, promotion or any other status change of crew members within YOTEL.
  • Assign work tasks and activities, prepares schedules, and ensures that all shifts are covered.
  • Assist crew with closing of checks – voids, comps, house accounts, etc.
  • Make sure all tables and seating areas are re-set to perfection at the turn
  • Edit/print menus to reflect current changes
  • Enhance and update menu descriptions so crew are well versed and consistent in their knowledge and understanding of food and beverage product
  • Operates the point of sale system with fluency – placing orders, posting payments, running reports, making database changes if needed.
  • Respond to guest complaints in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the monitoring of industry trends, take appropriate action to maintain competitive and profitable operations.
  • Complete end of night closing duties, including cashing out all servers and the bar, preparing the deposit, importing the day’s sales and credit card revenue, and ensuring the building is safe and secure.
  • Maintain safety, cleanness and productivity in the kitchen
  • Attends all allergy and foodborne illness in-service training.
  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Inspiring team leader focused on delivery of great customer service with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must mentor and supervise, focused on delivery of great customer service
  • Requires 3-5 or more years of experience as unit-level manager in food and beverage establishment, preferably experienced in running operation of high volume. (Knowledge of F&B preparation techniques, health department rules and regulations, liquor laws and regulations is a plus).
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 7 hours a day
  • Excellent customer service skills in a fast-paced setting
  • Previous experience overseeing events preferred
  • Experience with computer applications, including POS systems
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with the public and team members
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English
  • Ability to understand and meet financial goals
