Job Description
The Driver/Courier is responsible for transporting VIPs from local airports/hotels to SOUTHCOM Headquarters, and return, while driving Government-owned passenger cars, SUVs, passenger vans, cargo vans, limousines, and pickup trucks.
Essential Functions of the Position
Obey all posted speed limits, traffic signals, and directional signs, in compliance with applicable state laws
Transport passengers and passengers’ material possessions, such as luggage (luggage will not exceed 50 pounds per bag)
Drive safely and deliver passengers/products within deadlines
Analyze delivery address, determine appropriate routes and maintain schedule
Notify supervisors about any major repairs and maintenance's
Load and unload the vehicles, and ensure the vehicles are sent in for periodic maintenance and cleaning
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Drivers shall be capable of driving vehicles up to 12,500 pounds, capable of carrying loads weighing up to 800 pounds and the ability to operate either gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles
The drivers shall not use electronic equipment, e.g., radio, iPod or MP3 devices, cell phones, etc. during the scheduled service period when the vehicle is standing, loading, or unloading passengers
Must be capable of driving passenger vans, passenger cars, limousines, cargo vans, and trucks
Must ensure the following trainings are successfully completed: Local Area Network (LAN) Training Course (upon initial processing), and Army Accident Avoidance Course
Making daily or regular personal calls, e.g. family, friends, and personal business, for any reason under non-emergency circumstances shall be strictly prohibited.
Must be familiar with approved State of Florida Department of Transportation and Miami- Dade County hurricane evacuation routes and procedures in the event of inclement weather
Shall be prohibited from texting while driving when on official Government business or when performing any work for or on behalf of the Government
Alcoholic beverages, or other impairing agents, to include prescription drugs that impair driving, shall not be consumed within eight hours prior to the beginning of a scheduled shift
Be familiar with approved State of Florida Department of Transportation and Miami- Dade County hurricane evacuation routes and procedures in the event of inclement weather
Must be able to drive automatic transmissions or manual five-speed transmissions
Physical Demands
Required to walk, stand, sit and move about the property for long periods of time. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must be fully capable of physically performing these driving duties
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a United States citizen
At a minimum, the driver shall possess at least five (5) years of driving experience
Drivers shall have previous experience providing transportation for large conferences or events and experience transporting high-level officials.
Must possess a Secret security clearance
Must possess High School Diploma
Possess a valid Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record (i.e., no traffic violations resulting in suspension of driving privileges or drug/alcohol-related charges, IAW FL Statutes, Title XXIII, chapter 322) within the last 5 years identified during background investigation
