This role supports federal transportation and vehicle safety initiatives through advanced research, data analysis, and technical reporting. The Research Analyst III will apply deep analytical expertise to complex automotive safety, compliance, testing, and market data. You will identify trends, risks, anomalies, and performance insights that can inform important government programs and decisions. The position combines quantitative and qualitative research with statistical analysis, data visualization, and technical documentation. You will collaborate with engineers, investigators, policy analysts, software developers, and other technical specialists on high-impact projects. The role also contributes to compliance investigations, technology modernization, process improvement, and system implementation initiatives. Strong judgment, communication, and the ability to translate complex findings into actionable recommendations are essential.
- Conduct advanced quantitative and qualitative research supporting federal vehicle safety compliance programs and initiatives.
- Develop and maintain subject-matter expertise in automotive safety research, vehicle technologies, compliance regulations, and emerging industry trends.
- Analyze complex vehicle safety, compliance, testing, and market datasets to identify trends, risks, anomalies, and performance metrics.
- Perform advanced statistical analyses and interpret research, testing, and compliance data to generate meaningful conclusions.
- Review and interpret manufacturer submissions, compliance documentation, technical reports, and regulatory information.
- Prepare technical reports, research summaries, presentations, dashboards, and data visualizations for government and executive stakeholders.
- Support vehicle compliance investigations, research studies, special analytical projects, and other program initiatives.
- Collaborate with engineers, investigators, policy analysts, software developers, and technical specialists to advance program objectives.
- Support requirements gathering, business process analysis, workflow optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with software testing, validation, user acceptance testing (UAT), and implementation of application and system enhancements.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), analytical methodologies, and project documentation.
- Perform data validation, quality assurance, and verification activities to maintain data integrity and reliability.
- Participate in technical meetings, provide analytical recommendations, document action items, and monitor project progress.
- Support data management, reporting, and modernization initiatives involving enterprise databases and information systems.
- Ensure research, analysis, and technical deliverables are accurate, timely, and aligned with contractual and federal quality requirements.
- Perform additional research, analytical, and technical support duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Automotive Engineering, Business, Public Administration, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in automotive research, data analysis, program analysis, technical research, or a related field.
- Strong analytical, statistical, quantitative, and qualitative problem-solving capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze large and complex datasets and translate findings into clear technical reports and recommendations.
- Experience preparing analytical materials and technical reports for executive, government, or other senior-level audiences.
- Strong knowledge of automotive safety research, vehicle technologies, compliance requirements, or related transportation research is preferred.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex analytical findings clearly.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary technical and government-facing teams.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, quality assurance, and timely delivery.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or other required federal background investigation.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and regularly work with computers and digital systems.
- Sufficient mobility to perform activities such as bending, reaching, and kneeling, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds when required.
- Annual salary range of $60,000–$70,000.
