Job Description

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

The Facilities Director oversees General Maintenance, HVAC/R, and Power Plant departments within Aultman Hospital main campus. Responsibilities will include the oversight of activities involved in the maintenance of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC/R and other related systems as they apply. This position reports to the Executive Director of Facilities/Engineering/Construction Services. Meeting and coordinating projects with engineering and department leadership. Developing strategic plans and managing capital projects as they relate to the facility infrastructure. The Director will also maintain and provide oversight for various contracted services, to include landscaping, snow removal and electrical maintenance. The position will require the ability to manage various budgets and develop financial reports highlighting operational and capital performance. Other duties include the supervision and day-to-day leadership of the Facilities teams of approximately 35 staff members, providing strategic direction regarding the maintenance, planned interruption and long-term replacement of maintenance systems, and to work as project manager on small to medium sized capital projects. This position requires the coordination of all required regulatory testing and documentation for accrediting bodies such as Joint Commission, Ohio Department of Health, CARF and others as identified. This position utilizes multiple direct reports as coordinators and leads to assist with day-to-day activities.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prompt and regular attendance at assigned facility/area of assignment.

  • Assumes accountability for demonstrating behaviors consistent with the customer service policy.
  • Population Specific Competency: ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.
  • Evaluate financial performance through various cost centers and provide detailed explanations of any variances.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the facility departments.
  • Provides 24 hour on-call support for assistance with staffing, equipment failures and all other issues associated with the departments or equipment.
  • Oversees schedules for all departmental staff and approves required overtime.
  • Evaluates the needs of facilities to prioritize capital projects.
  • Reviews quality data and maintain specific dashboards
  • Completes staff evaluations.
  • Applies a problem-solving approach of preventive maintenance, diagnostic troubleshooting, and evaluation of systems. Evaluates, procures, and monitors physical plant needs. Communicates with contractors and vendors to maintain system integrity.
  • Promotes safe work environment.
  • Completes building walkthroughs periodically of facilities.
  • Participates in ongoing evaluation to ensure quality, cost effective systems and procedures.
  • Ability to receive, understand, and implement direction from management and senior leadership. Ability to effectively develop and supervise functions and tasks within the framework of department and organizational policies and procedures
  • Ability to complete administrative functions and shifts as assigned, to include, but not limited to, maintaining time and attendance for assigned staff, monitor and document staff performance, contribute to, and complete staff performance evaluations, etc.
  • Ability to effectively manage the completion of performance improvement processes
  • Ability to proactively and positively contribute to the strategic direction and development of the organizations
  • Other duties as assigned by senior leadership
  • Ability to use a personal computer for tasks such as communicating via email and preparing reports and other professional documents.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or other advanced degree preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to handle a wide variety of circumstances and conditions
  • Previous supervisory experience within the department and/or industry is preferred
  • Four (4) years’ experience in a large institution, commercial facility, or service company in regulatory compliance, maintenance, and contracting.
  • Certified Facilities Healthcare Manager certification preferred or obtained in within 2 years of employment
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft office products is preferred

JOB LOCATION AND SCHEDULING

  • Varied hours as required by the job (generally scheduled for 8-hour shifts). May be scheduled weekends and/or holidays as needed
  • Provide 24 hour on-call support for assistance with staffing, equipment failures and all other issues associated with the departments
  • Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.
  • Sitting/standing/moving about during working hours
