Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a VP, International Communications based in the United States.
The VP, International Communications will lead the global communications strategy and shape the reputation of a major decentralized blockchain ecosystem. This senior leadership role combines narrative development, executive communications, media relations, and high-stakes issues management. You will build trusted relationships with leading business, financial, technology, and crypto journalists while making complex technical developments accessible to diverse audiences. Working across a distributed ecosystem of developers, validators, businesses, and policymakers, you will strengthen credibility through accurate, consistent, and evidence-based storytelling. The role requires strategic judgment and hands-on execution, from drafting critical statements to establishing communication systems that support rapid, coordinated responses. You will also build the communications function and help a lean team operate effectively in a fast-moving, high-scrutiny environment.
As VP, International Communications, you will own the global narrative, guide reputation management, and develop communication strategies that build long-term trust across the ecosystem. Your responsibilities will include:
Define and maintain a clear global narrative grounded in a small number of credible, defensible messages.
Build and personally manage relationships with leading U.S. business, financial, technology, and crypto-native media.
Lead reputation and crisis communications for network incidents, client bugs, application-layer exploits, validator disputes, and other high-stakes situations.
Establish incident-response frameworks, including severity levels, decision-making responsibilities, rehearsed processes, and pre-approved response language.
Advise senior leadership on executive positioning and communications strategy, providing candid guidance when necessary.
Develop a network of credible independent technical voices who can explain and advocate for the ecosystem.
Support ecosystem teams through product launches, founder media training, and shared communications resources.
Translate protocol and governance developments into accurate, accessible messaging for both technical stakeholders and broader audiences.
Coordinate with Policy and Legal teams on regulatory and legislative developments, including collaboration with relevant policy organizations.
Create a measurement framework focused on narrative accuracy, reputation outcomes, and the speed at which misinformation is corrected, rather than relying solely on media coverage volume.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate combines substantial communications leadership experience with strong media relationships, crisis-management expertise, and the ability to communicate effectively in complex environments where influence matters more than formal authority. The following qualifications are particularly important:
Approximately 10–15 years of experience in communications, including significant exposure to high-scrutiny environments such as regulated industries, major technology platforms, political or advocacy organizations, or companies navigating serious reputational challenges.
Firsthand experience managing high-pressure situations where information was incomplete, decisions were time-sensitive, and communications carried significant consequences.
Established relationships with leading business, financial, and technology journalists, along with sound judgment about which relationships deserve sustained investment.
Ability to engage directly with engineers and technical experts and translate complex information into accurate, clear, and repeatable messaging.
Experience securing meaningful media coverage for challenging stories without an obvious news hook, relying on evidence, credibility, and persistence.
Proven ability to build consensus and influence stakeholders across coalitions, consortia, federated organizations, or open-source projects.
A hands-on approach to communications, including personally drafting statements and managing critical messaging rather than delegating all execution.
Strong composure, sound judgment, and clear decision-making under pressure, particularly during reputational crises.
Practical fluency with AI tools for monitoring, research, drafting, message testing, and adversarial review.
Additional advantages include experience communicating about decentralized or multi-stakeholder systems without direct control, the confidence to challenge senior leaders constructively, experience building a communications function from the ground up, and a thoughtful perspective on improving communications practices across the crypto industry.
Benefits:
Full-time employment.
Remote work within the United States, with New York and San Francisco also listed as location options.
Opportunity to shape global communications strategy and reputation within a rapidly evolving blockchain ecosystem.
Senior leadership scope with the opportunity to build and develop communications capabilities.
Direct collaboration with technical, policy, legal, and ecosystem stakeholders.
Opportunity to influence how complex decentralized technology is understood by business leaders, policymakers, journalists, and the public.
