SUMMARY

The Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the facility. This position performs a variety of cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance tasks to ensure that all areas remain organized and presentable in compliance with company and safety standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, corridors, stairways, and breakrooms.
• Vacuum, sweep, mop, scrub, and polish floors and surfaces.
• Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
• Wash windows, walls, ceilings, furniture, and fixtures.
• Empty and clean trash receptacles; transport waste to designated disposal areas.
• Polish metal surfaces and maintain the appearance of equipment and fixtures.
• Refill supplies (e.g., toilet paper, soap, paper towels, and sanitary products) as needed.
• Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and request replacements when items are low or out of stock.
• Assist with event or meeting setup and teardown as needed.
• Support general facility maintenance by reporting or addressing minor issues.
• Respond promptly to spills or other cleaning emergencies to maintain a safe work area.
• Follow proper recycling and waste segregation procedures.
• Perform minor maintenance and facility upkeep tasks
• Support facility cleanliness by maintaining plant floors, exterior walkways, and waste collection areas, including the use of sweepers, vacuums, or blowers when needed.
• Collaborate with the Facilities and EHS teams to support housekeeping and 5S initiatives.
• Inspect assigned areas regularly and report any maintenance or safety concerns to supervision.
• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment safely and efficiently.
• Use appropriate cleaning agents and chemicals in accordance with OSHA and Cal/OSHA safety standards.
• Comply with all company, safety, health, and sanitation policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous janitorial, custodial, or housekeeping experience preferred.
• Experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or facility environment strongly desired.
• Familiarity with safety and sanitation standards (OSHA/Cal-OSHA) is a plus.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• None required; safety or janitorial certifications preferred.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions, safety procedures, and product labels.
• Proficiency in a second language is a plus.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

• Ability to perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
• Capable of measuring cleaning solutions and maintaining supply inventories accurately.

JOB SKILLS

• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment.
• Ability to safely operate janitorial tools such as vacuums, buffers, and floor scrubbers.
• Understanding of proper handling and storage of cleaning agents and chemicals.
• Strong attention to detail with ability to identify and report maintenance or safety issues.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills to complete assigned tasks efficiently.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the Facilities and EHS teams.
• Commitment to maintaining cleanliness, safety, and compliance with company policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing job duties, the employee will regularly engage in activities such as using hands to finger, handle, or feel and communicating verbally. Additionally, the employee will frequently need to reach with hands and arms while standing and walking as part of the role. Occasional lifting and movement of objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and using a ladder may be required. This position also demands specific vision capabilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

• ASTM F–2412–2005, ANSI Z41–1999, or ANSI Z41–1991 rated safety toe shoes in specific areas.
• Clear ANSI Z87.1 safety-rated glasses in specific areas.
• Hearing protection in specific locations.
• Ability to compile with JSA in specific areas.

SALARY INFORMATION:

According to several states' laws, this position's salary range falls between $17.25 and $20 hourly. However, this salary information is merely a general guideline.
