Position Summary
Provides the highest quality advanced life support care wherever the emergent situation arises.
Lead paramedic: The Lead Paramedic serves as the on-call leader during nights, weekends, and PTO, supervising four Paramedic crews, coordinating patient care, and ensuring adherence to protocols. Provide guidance, coaching, and staff development while educating teams to foster continuous improvement, and they manage daily medication ordering and regulatory compliance. Deliver high-quality ALS care, including 911 MICU coverage for a defined region and ALS/BLS for life-threatening calls, and maintain MICU vehicles, equipment, and inventory. Complete Electronic Patient Care Records and operate the MICU vehicle in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1.Provide “911” MICU coverage of a predetermined, geographic response region. Provide Advanced and Basic Life Support to all life-threatening requests for service.
2.Maintain MICU vehicles, quarters, equipment, and medication inventory as detailed in the “Daily Shift Responsibilities” form.
3.Complete and distribute Electronic Patient Care Reports and all required documentation necessary for statistics and record keeping.
4.Operate MICU vehicle in emergency and non-emergency situations.
Lead Paramedic Responsibilities include:
- Maintain life-sustaining hemodynamics with pharmacologic interventions affecting cardiovascular, pulmonary, and neurological function; perform high-acuity procedures including intubation, ventilation, bleeding control, IV/IO access, ECG interpretation, and cardiovascular/pulmonary support.
- Ensure licensure, compliance, and supervised practice: complete ongoing education to meet NJOEMS/NREMT requirements; perform approved skills under NJAC 8:41 guidance and the supervision of the Emergency Department physician.
- Document and report: thoroughly document all patient care encounters using electronic patient care reports.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Required:
●High School Diploma or Equivalent
Preferred:
●Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Paramedic Science
Minimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation):
Required:
●Minimum of 1 year as EMT in high volume, primary “911” system
(High volume system, > than 1,000 calls per year)
Lead Paramedic: 3+ years of Paramedic experience
Preferred:
●2-3 years of Advanced Life Support/Critical Care experience
License, Registry or Certification:
Required:
●Certification as a State of New Jersey Paramedic (Or New Jersey Licensed RN with current EMT card and minimum of at least 1 year Critical Care experience)
●Advanced Specialized Certification(s):
⚬Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
⚬Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
⚬Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
●Drivers License: Valid Drivers License
●Lead Paramedic:
ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 & 800
PHTLS/ITLS
Preferred:
●Technical Training in Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
●Lead Paramedic:
FP-C/CFRN
Instructorships applicable to MICU
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
Required:
●Excellent emergency care skills
●Ability to work with others as a member of an emergency care team
●Superior communication skills
●Familiar with the routine aspects of the local emergency medical services system
